I don't mean to be argumentative, I believe you about prison being tolerable if you keep your head down, but come on. Is there any other situation you can be forced into by societal norms in which you have to "be ready to take a life at any time."

Prison is such a huge business in the states it seems like we could at least implement a system where the violent and non-violent offenders would be kept at separate facilities, or at least in separate wings, something.
That is a fucked up way to live a life, but if you are in that situation, you have to able to adapt to the environment.

They have a system in the county jails, where they keep separate the non-violent and violent offenders, but why they can't do that for the prison system is a good question.

One of my attorneys and a prison guard at separate times told me the same thing. They said...It doesn't matter the nature of your crime, in their eyes when you commit a crime you are a criminal, and all criminals go to prison, just like trash get thrown in the trash pile.

Funny cuz, we separate our trash to recycle.
