    Noob with a lighting issue

It's been a long time since my last and only previous grow. I'm currently growing a clone of Mr Nice in my closet with a 400 watt HPS. I seem to be burning my plants are the tips are getting burnt looking. How close should I have my HPS? It doesnt have a cool tube. I've tried the stick your hand in and see if it is hot, but it is still burning. Thanks!

just the tips of leaves sound like running just a tad high on the fert/nute area. got a pic or 2? whole plant or just a leaf or 2? I understand that light is not a cooltube but does it have a fan cooled hood? I can normally run mine about 10-12 inches from canopy and no problems here and I also run a 400w lamp.

Not all reflectors are created equal. Some are better than others. Some reflectors can turn the light into laser light..IMO.

I'm only 12 inches from the tops of mine as well, running a 400 HPS with a basic alluminum reflector.

Like Tiny said, it's probably just a little over fertilization.

Flush it with 6.5 PH balanced water, and continue to water with plain water until signs of fresh healthy growth. Then hit 'er with some half strength nutes and see how she reacts.

As long as you have proper airflow, you should NOT be getting burnt spots on the leaves. Heat stress will make the leaves look like tacos or canoes before burning/cooking occurs.
