    Using higher CFM PC Fans

I've searched the forums (not super extensively) for information about using PC fans, but I didn't see anything on this particular idea. If I just missed it, then I apologize and I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Instead of buying an expensive exhaust fan couldn't I buy (4) PC fans that run at 130 cfm each and place them together in a square over an 8" ventilation duct? Would they pull 520 cfm (4 x 130cfm) that way? Assuming they fit snug and whatnot. Or would it be better to have each one inside its own 4" duct?

In fact how does having multiple exhausts effective total CFM? Does having 2 separate 400cfm fans next to each other have a total cfm of 800?

I did see the sticky about fans, but it didn't talk about this idea specifically. Has anyone tried something like this? Is it feasible?

yes, you can do what you suggest and it'll work fine.

as long as you arrange them in a big square with the fans side by side like you suggest, like:

    xx
    xx

just do not stack them ontop of one another - this method would accomplish very little

and make sure your ducting/hole/whatever is large enough to accomodate pulling that much air through without the fans having to work too hard for it, otherwise you'll start losing CFMs.
