help with soil (made a mistake)

2 Questions:recently i started germinating 20 seeds in water and transferred them into cups(with holes) 2 days ago. the problem i realize now is i used soil from the farmers field behind our house, which seemed airy enough at the time, but now i realize is way to compact and i should add some perlite. but its too late and the seeds are in the ground. 2 seeds already started growing and broke through the surface. is there any way to move them out of the cups without disturbing them long enough for me to replace with seedling mix? also i had an earlier batch of 15 going that got killed (long story) and i was using a 1/4 normal strength MC plant food/water solution mixed up in a milk jug for that batch then i started using the same jug to water these 20 sprouts. is that going to kill them?

    any input is appreciated.
    thanks

help with soil (made a mistake)

This is just in response to the soil situation as I am not to good with nutrients etc... I would leave the beans in the soil for now until its time to transplant them. When you transplant them just remember to use a different type of medium instead of straight soil IMO. I would use MG for the medium transplant pot. I only recommend it because I've had great success with it and it has some nutes in it already.

    I hope this helped

I agree with wwzeus. Leave them where they are for now. Give them 2 or 3 weeks then transplant.

You shouldn't feed seedlings for at least 2 weeks. They don't need it. Just give them some water if the soil drys out too much and they will be fine.

If small enough, you can water them...then gently dig under them with a spoon, lift it out, and place in proper soil. Make sure to go all the way under the roots. I used to germinate a few seeds per cup, and transfer when needed. (had limited growroom space)
When placing in fresh soil, you can bury it up to the cotelydons. (the round 'baby leaves') This is something I do with every strain, every plant. More roots will soon grow from that stem, and it keeps the plant from stretching too much (and falling over) in veg.

If worried about digging them up, you can water them, pop them out of the cup or pot, gently 'massage' the old soil off of the rootball, then place in proper soil. If you don't break or crush, they will be fine.

Leaving them may create more problems down the line.

No nutes till the 3rd or 4th internode, 1/4 normal strength till they acclimate to the new food.

thanks so much for the advice everyone , when they're this young, how big will the roots already be?, this would be day 4 after germination. what if the seed pops out of the soil when changing the soil and i have to put it back in, will it die?

1.) The taproot should only be an inch or two in length.

    2.) No

help with soil (made a mistake)

thanks again for the info. UPDATE: between last night when there was 2 sprouts and today 4 more have come up so im thinking i wont have to move them into more airy soil. i plan on moving them to their final outdoor destination within 2 weeks anyway and they're in 16oz dixie cups so i think i'll be ok. does anyone know if using MG only in vegatative will still cause the buds to have a chemmy taste? i was planning on using high phosphorous organic nutes during flowering anyway. also could someone tell me how far the odor will travel in late flowering? ill have about 15plants im thinking, not all in the same area but they are within a few hundred yards from a road, will this be a problem?

    i love this forum.
    thanks everyone.

Jumping the gun worrying about final taste, but is not a problem using MG in veg.
