is foil ok to use inside my grow box

hi all

i was goin to use foil for the inside of my grow box but have been told to use white paint insted. is this ok to use / is this better ??.

also is it better to water from the top or bottom ??

i use tin foil on my walls and worked out very good for me so far,good results, take a look at my thread, got pics up of my grow closet

also i have always heard watering from the top not the bottom

you can actually grow from the bottom using the Wick system. Basically its flood table with about 2 inches of water in them. Your containers would have some nylon rope coming out from underneath the containers sucking up the water as needed. Never tried it myself, but I read about it in one of Ed Rosenthals' grow books.

I've seen mixed results. definately dont crinkle the tinfoil.... watch the leaves for burn spots from the tinfoil and all should be good. I've used a heavy duty tin that looked just like a mirror and that room was so damn bright, also seen white paint (very common) and styrofoam , yeah cool as hell... worked nice, just kinda a mess.

white paint is the way to go, hands down!

with foil, you have the pain of installing it (you'll never get it completely flat) and
any wrinkles are potential hot spots.

foil is also a much bigger pain to clean, you will tear it!

also, white paint is nearly as reflective as Mylar (which is way better than foil),
like 90% for paint and 95% for Mylar, so the trade off is 5% reflectivity in exchange
for ease of use and clean up, and durability as well.

once you paint it, you can forget it.

oh yeah, btw, if you go to Lowes or Home Depot and go to the roofing department,
you can get elastomeric paint, it's flat white and rubberized, it's made to seal
roofs, so it's waterproof, plus, it's resistant to mold and mildew, i guess because
of the rubber. and it's cheap at like $15.00 a gallon!

Flat white paint or stick-on linoleum tiles is best for long-term use.

Watering from the bottom is a great way to promote root rot.
