Are you on a muncipal water supply or on a well? The well water can change the Ph dramatically during to season, but most domestic water suppliers are right at 7.0 all of the time. Be sure to have a good methodolgy for stirring up the water before you use it and if you're using an electronic water meter, sell it to one of your buddies, and they are not too reliable.

If you are on a well then I would use flush on the plants about every 3-4 weeks to eliminate minerial / salinity problems with the roots, but that's dependent upon the minerals in your water. If you have a local water company many will test your water for free (aas then they think they can sell you the equipment to fix your water issues... LOL!!)

I always like the Ph test kits where you fill the vial and then check the color. You can't really screw up. Check it all the time you fertalize or water and make the adjustments necessary to make it 6.2-6.8.

What part of the state are you? (the general area / city area - me no want your stinking street address!!! LOL!!!) as I have found that specific plants in one area do much better than the same monkeys 15 miles away.

You've done a pretty good job for a first timer!! (Pat yourself on the back!!!)
