Leaves all turned up in minutes....
This is my first grow...I only have 6 plants under a 400w hps. I would like to grow all year round, so I have a small grow room in my garage. I would grow outside, but I live a block from the beach and generally speaking it is always pretty foggy and you dont see the sun for most of the day! However, today the sun is bright and there is a nice breeze...I decided to let my little ladies get some real sun and good fresh oxygen today...the 2 bigger plants IMMEDIATELY turned there leaves up to the sun! Is this bad? What does it mean? Am I missing some key ingredients in the grow room? Any advise would be lovely.

can't really say without pics.
it can be bad to put your ladies into direct sunlight if they have been indoors under atrificial light. there is an immense difference. some strains have been bred to be indoor strains and don't like a bunch of direct sunlight and some prefer shady areas with minimal direct sunlight.
not to mention by putting your plants outside you risk picking up something and infesting your growroom, which should be a somewhat controlled environment.
be careful with you ladies and check on them. they can get messed up real quick!

by turned up, I mean curled. The plant is already reaching upward, but the edges of the leaves are even curled up!

do the leaves kind of curled like taco shells? if so they are too hot, this has happened to me indoors but never outdoors but maybe it gets hotter in your area.

I would say the sun is too much for them. I would keep inside plants inside or give them some sun alittle at a time. I would pick days that are not to sunny to start out with . then give it alittle more, then alittle more, ect. If you do stuff alittle at a time you can tell if it is helping or hurting your plant without killing it. Then when you see what works do it next time you grow. Thats just my 2 cents.

if you want to make it an outdoor plant you must temper and harden the leaves before you keep it out there. bring the plant outside for 20minutes then inside. keep doing this but extend the outside time a little every day.

Dicking with the spectrums and lumens is a good way to throw them into shock. Use the lights you have, or use the sun. Going back-n-forth is no good.
The plant was likely reacting to :
A) the heat from the sun.
B) the sudden increase in lumens and spectrums.
C) the UB light it was never getting before.
D) the pot sitting on the hot cement can kill bioactivity, and steam the roots.
Then there's the potential for bug issues...

My leaves that are growing out from where the buds grow curl downwards like an upside down taco shell, i think its just cuz the temp dips down at night when its all off, Im not worried tho, shes growing perfectly fine right now. I agree tho, if your growing inside, keep her inside, plants that go into shock during different stages in growth have a better chance to hermie if they think they are going to die or dont think they will polinate before their time is threw. I love plants, there so smart.
