Just goes to show, patience and diligence now saves a lot of money and headaches in the future. I too was in a hurry to start, and had to learn some things along the way. Now I want to buy new stuff...

If you were to invest in one thing, I'd make it ventilation. Look into a fan that has multiple speed settings, and strong enough to vent your growroom and cool the cooltube - the other investment... search for DIY cooltube on google and you can make one for half the price or so.

Look at high times even their new article just posted this month states that the ufo really is close to equivalent to 400w hps. Ufo may take a little longer to finish but it is still a stronger light then the 250w hps. I grow under a Ufo and have been nothing but happy with the results. The myth that Led's dont grow weed has been busted even more now by a major publication lay it to rest. High Times > Grow Articles check out the article. it says they are basically on par now with a possible 5% difference in yield under the hps but in other cases it actually produced even to a little more. the only noted difference i would say really is your finishing time it can add i would say up to 2.5 weeks. I think stealth/whiskey would agree.

Just please do your research on how the led's perform before you say that a measly 250w hps will make them grow faster than the ufo especially in early veg when hps tends to make plants stretch. (not meaning to knock you bigtops just get tired of the led don't grow well rhetoric) no hard feeling wanted any where :hippy:

I didn't say that I said turn on the HPS more frequently...

No hard feelings, but I never said UFO's didn't grow well either. Good of you to drop some info, but please don't bash my advice- especially which I never even gave :jointsmile:

After looking at so many LED grows I am still a little skeptical (at least of a 90 watt UFO being comparable to a 400w hps). Figured since he had the 250w he could use it... it will definitely speed up his veg and flowering if used in combination with the led's (as long as the temps are in range), and the stretch is not really a big deal. Many people go through grows with just an HPS.

This is just my personal view, that a UFO and hps combination would be much better than just the UFO alone. I don't like the idea of adding more time to flowering and vegging... 2.5 weeks extra of flowering and maybe 1.5 weeks of veg extra? I would be harvesting one time less per year, and the savings from the electricity bill would not be worth it for me. Just my :twocents:

I'm not too keen on High Times when it comes to products either :wtf:

The article was well worth the weed, its my first grow so i got the 250 before a friend gave me the ufo, i am going to go with you ufo grow as it will save me money which is well needed :jointsmile:. i think i just needed my arm twisted. i have a steady temp with it I'll post more photos on Thursday.

All rants are welcome cause the more knowledge i pick up the better my :jointsmile:

didnt realize you were saying to add it more offten. seems like a lot of heat to add though. And i haven't noticed any delay on time in veg but if you are only using a first gen UFO not the tri band you might. I use an all blue ufo for veg and have noticed it being much better than using cfl's for it + much cooler. and 2.5 weeks would be max longer i would say some strains seem to finish right on time (according to other growers) i need to update my grow but im about 11 weeks into flower and am about ready (maybe 5 more days) with an unknown bag seed that seemed to be heavily indica.

Bigtops never ment to bash your advice i misread what you wrote. I have enjoyed your grows i follow them. the last train wreck one you had was amazing.:thumbsup: And thanks much for info on tent was kinda thinking about getting one now i know better.

Hope your grow works out well. jimmy welcome to the pink side :stoned: Even with going with the ufo you want to think about ventilation (mostly for smell controll though) does not need to be as big as if you were going hps.

I know i need to get a carbon filter in there for odours there not starting to smell yet! Quater boy how long was you veg cycle with the ufo?

My first set I veged under a ufo like yours and i vegged for only 3 weeks under it before i flowered(trying to get feet wet) Now i have vegged 4 plants under an All blue UFO and they seem to grow a little faster but not that significant i would just wait until the plants are about 1/2 the size you want or so then flower them. i would leave them in veg from seed at least 4 weeks probably more like 6 for some decent size plants. the main thing is where i live Heat is a big problem when its 115 out side and your AC is just pushing to keep 79 or 80 degrees hps is almost not do able and cost so much just to keep your a/c where your plants can live. Check my log lots of pics on it. The other thing most notice with led's is you want to get all your buds to the top because led's have a little harder time penetrating. so fiming or topping maybe lst is recommended screen might work well (i topped one with my first grow much happier with topped plant than one i let grow wild).

Thankfully i live in a place where my room temp is like 20 to 21 and never above really unless heat wave! I was looking a some side LED lamps to give my lower leeaves the light they need!
