    First Grow

So my boyfriend and I are trying our hand at growing for the first time. I think we have a pretty decent set up for running off a tight budget. We have two plants that have already popped out of the soil. One is strawberry cough (for my anxiety) and the other is a mazar - afghan mix that came free with any purchase of seeds.

So far, so good. I will try to put some pics on here soon. Right now we are talking about getting more lights. We are using fluorescent light right now. When they are at such an early stage, how much light is necessary? Keep in mind, we are not trying to grow the most optimal plant we can grow. Just enough for us to smoke and maybe share with a few friends!

Anyway, thanks for your help ahead of time.:smokin:

Well, we got more lights and have transplanted them into bigger pots from the little plastic cups they were in. Sadly, during transplant the roots tore off of one of the plants. My boyfriend was all upset b/c it slipped out of his hand and all the dirt (and root) broke away. But we gave it some root generating nutes and it looks to be doing much better.

Good to hear it's doing good, keep us posted as time progresses so if so you should have any problems we can be hear to help

What kind of lights did you two get? What spectrum (kelvin)? Also, how many lights and how many lumens (wattage) do they put out?

    Good Luck and Happy Growing.

    welcome to cann.com.

you can't really have too much light. the more the better (unless we are talking fresh cut clones). you want a minimum of 5000 lumens per sq ft.

they will grow, although a lack of light might cause problems. are you using CFLs or fluorescent tubes?

either way keep the lights within 1-4" for best results. you might want to back the lights off of the mazar with the root damage.

    good growing!

Thanks for the support! We are using flouro tubes. We have 2 plant bulbs, 2 sunlight bulbs, and 2 daylight bulb. My boyfriend keeps up with all the technical stuff. I am more in charge of talking to and watering the plants, but I think he said around 4000 lumens. That may not be correct but I will check.

To me it looks like plenty of light for the two plants. They are both doing well right now. The mazar afghan is not as green as it should be, but I think the root promoting nutes we used have helped it out some.

I should have pics on here soon. I have been really busy with grad school and haven't had time to upload any yet.:hippy:

    Hey shake,

Thanks for the info. As I put in my other reply, I am not 100% about the lumens. I will find out though. But we are using flouro tubes, 6 total. I think I am going to watch the Mazar for another day and see how it does...if it doesn't start looking better I will try to back the lights off some.

    Thanks for the help.
