Seeds M or F ??? That is the Question.

1st Time grower so sorry for the possibly idiotic question, but How do u know which seeds are Male and which ones are Female? Are there any signs or color differences... Also any tips on gettin them ready to plant would be great. Thanx.

there is NO way to determine a seed's gender, by visual inspection ... nope, uh-uh ... you grow them out for a month, or so, cut the lights back to force flowering (12 hours), after a few days, they should indicate sex ... then, do as you wish ... I usually place them back into vegging (18 hours of light) until the branches start alternating, indicating maturity , typically after 5 or 6 sets of branches ... keep in mind, the plant will double, or even triple, in height, during flowering ... good growing :smokin:

Thank you for the feedback. I've heard wetting the seeds in a paper towel until they start to open is good, then plant them. Is this true? And you say once the plant has started that's how I'll know, well then how do i know? What should i be looking for? Color, thickness? Thanks.

Start the seeds in what your growing in. The less you mess with them tender sprouts the better.

When you see the white hair, then you know she is there.
When you see balls on a stick, cut it done in a quick.

Do a search there are so many pic's of lovely ladies.

Yes, keeping it in a wet paper towel will work.

You have to start flowering before you can tell if your plant is male or female.

Like above said, look @ some pics.

paper towel method does work, some have great success with it, others are totally against it.

I think the trick to paper towel method is to be extremely gentle when moving them to the grow medium, the tap root is very fragile at that step and you need to avoid touching it at all costs.

personally i used paper towel method and had 100% germ with 5 seeds so it worked for me... but i know there are some that don;t like it.

as for your other questions... i suggest you read a lot on the various forums here... sex determination is pretty basic so if you don;t know how to tell the difference you obviously haven;t read alot... which don;t get me wrong, i;m not slamming you for that - but there are a lot more things that you will need to know before you need to worry about sex determination... you'll need the knowledge to keep them alive for at least 30 or so days before you even need to worry about that.

do not germ your seeds until you have read so much that your eyes are begining to bleed, and then read some more.

theres lots of good info in the "Grow FAQ" "Baisc Growing" sections... and if you are doing indoor growing read the stuff in "Indoor Growing" and "Indoor Lighting" if you are doing outdoor, read the "Outdoor Growing" section... and i can;t recomend keeping up with the "Plant Problems" section enough... there are some real genius growers that read that section and offer exceptional advice to people having problems... and by observing other peoples problems it will help you identify some of your own that you might otherwise just think is normal when its not.

    good luck!
