And yes, you can make a graft between two species. There is a fruit tree called "fruit salad" but the grafts are not vigorous enough to be very worthwhile. It's only a novelty really. I think it has peaches, red plums, nectarines, purple plums, and apricots. But everything I have read says that the grafts fail most of the time, and even if they survive they do not produce well.
