First Timer - What am I doing? *Pics

I'm a TOTAL n00bie... Have whats looking like a female (as far as I can tell.)

6 weeks old, 11 inches tall. Lower leaves are yellow tipped, upper leaves look OK. Never "topped/trimmed" ... on it's eighth set of leaves. What now? Do I trigger "flowering"? Am I impatient? Am I doing something wrong / wasting my time?

Please have a peek and give a 'first-timer' some comment. Do things look alright at first glance? Any comments appreciated, be they brutally honest (negative) or positive... as long as they come from a bit of experience.

    Total bargain-basement setup...
    Soil: Miracle Grow Moisture Control
Seed: From an old bag o buds
    Light: 150w flood (I know, I know)
    Space: Attic, fan-cooled
    (Amateur, all the way)

You desperatly need more light but i think you know that already based on what you said after your light stats lol.

what kind of flood light are you using?

adding a couple 6500K CFLs around it would probably help alot and be pretty inexpensive

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I'm going purely on the basics... dirt, light, air, and water. I'm thinking about giving up trying.

its actually not that bad... if you can just get some more light around it, it would help alot... checkout the bottom link in my sig. I'd probably try and get some 6500K CFLs around it for a few days, maybe a week, and then swap to a 2700K/6500K mix (heavier on 2700K) and induce flowering... depending on how tall you want it to get... but considering how tall and lanky it is right now, you probably don;'t want it to get much taller as its going to stretch more during flowering, but thats normal. it does depend on how tall you want it to get though.

Some CFL's or T8/T12 Flour shop light (doable for under $20) would make a big difference. If that's not possible you should at least try to get the flood closer (not too close now) and get some reflective surfaces surrounding your girl.

you may switch your light-period for flowering now, (12/12), unless you want it to get larger ... it may double or, even triple, in height during flowering ... your pics illustrate the 'alternating branches', that indicate plant maturity, really well ... see how they started growing, not directly across from each other ?...that means the plant is an adult, and able to commence flowering ... you do need a lot more light ... try to find 'warm' lights (GE calls theirs 'kitchen & bath' bulbs) ... it could just be your camera, or lighting, but, if they are as pale, as they appear, they need a bit more feeding ... don't overdo it ... use 1/2 strength fertilizers, only once per week, until you see how they react ... I like a nice deep green leaf, with just the slightest hint of a browned tip, that's maximum feeding level, for me ... since you're soon going into flowering, your nutes will have only a small amount of nitrogen (which is responsible for 'greening up' the plant), so it may be awhile, before it catches up, if at all ... good luck, your first attempt is a lot more successful, than most ...

Thanx for all your comments ! I had a feeling my lighting wasn't up to snuff. Problem is, my lighting options are limited in the attic space. Ya think I can "get away" with what I got? My plant is 2 feet, 4 inches away from the light... maybe I can bring it closer? I'm willing to wait 'til the fall to see any "results".

Reply: warfrat73... I'm thinking about bringing plant to light closer, but like you said, not too much

Reply: the image reaper... I can go plant height up to about 7-8 feet, so flowering height ain't that much of a problem. And yes, the light / camera shows the leaves lighter than they really are. They're medium (pretty healthy looking) green in true color.

Once again... I APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK everybody!

Fill your water can a day or 2 before using the water with a tiny pinch of baking soda, so that it goes stale fluoride and chlorine will mostly evaporate.
Add a teaspoon of molasses to a gallon of water, and use as fertilizer . you will also need a Hid lamp, Hps would be great. leaf feed using 7-10 drops of seaweed extact or fish emulsion per 16 ounce spay bottle, Spay when light turns on just enough to wet the plant once a day,for bugs and fungus, before the flowers come mix some neem oil 1 tbl spoon to 16 ounce spray bottle add a few drops of( NON) antibacterial dish soap shake while you spray. and stop spraying them when you see visual buds.Carefull not to get a drop on the bulbs if using any hID.If cant find neem oil, use 1 t spoon of sesame oil, and 1 t spoon of fish oil. I hope this helps, as soon as you can you need too find some better seeds or clones, the one you have will be good though not a waiste, but not the best for a starter gardener. Study this guide, and you will be on your way. Do use just water on them at least once a week.:smokin:
