A difficult decision...
I was planning to go on a fantastic road trip this summer with my mom for 2 weeks. I was also supposed to get a fantastic job with the Department of Natural Resources during the summer, but was recently turned down because I'd be missing too much.
My mom said she would be willing to take the trip by herself, which makes me very sad, but I wouldn't have the money to pay for a trip if I didn't take this job, it's a very very good job. I don't know what to do.Purple Banana Reviewed by Purple Banana on . A difficult decision... I was planning to go on a fantastic road trip this summer with my mom for 2 weeks. Hey PB ,
It sounds like your mother is a very understanding person. I'd value that to the grave.. but it also sounds like the job isn't something that you'll find easily.
Personally, I'd lean towards the promising job given the economy situation. Job losses are happening left and right. Skilled, hard working people are losing their jobs and you can be sure they're looking for a replacement just as hard as anyone else.
Postpone your trip or have a vacation @ home. Get out and enjoy the summer with your mother while enjoying your new job at the same time. You can butter both sides of the bread and have a double decker sandwich... they're satisfying.
I'm sure she'll understand and be proud to have such a great child.
Best of Luck,
Bob.

I think you really should take the job. You say you can't afford the trip without taking it. You also make it sound like it's a summer job. If that's the case, work for the summer and plan the trip when the job ends. Just my :twocents:

Nanner, Do what your heart tells you to do. Galaxys reply is a good one...
FWIW, at the age I am, I would love to be able to go back and take some of the family trips that I missed, OTOH, at the time, I was workin towards earning my journeyman machinist card... If I had not worked the way I did, my lifes path would have been completely different. I dunno.... you gotta look to the future, but at the same time, make time for your family. I know this is not a cut and dried answer... you just have to follow your own path. I hope that when your have gotten to your early 50s, that you can be as satisfied with your life as I am with mine.

If you can't take the trip without the job isn't the decision already decided? Why don't you try and reschedule the trip for a later date? peace :hippy:
EDIT: think this has already been said lol

Take the trip. Mom won't be around forever.
