SOG - What's your opinion on plants per pot?

I'm intending to do a SOG in soil. I have 48 plants available. My room is just under 4'x4' with a 600w HPS. Here is what I'm considering:

1 plant per pot - 36 plants in 36 1 gallon pots
2 plants per pot - 40 plants in 20 3 gallon pots
3 plants per pot - 48 plants in 16 3 gallon pots

I don't think this will fit in my room, but if does -

3 plants per pot - 48 plants in 16 5 gallon pots

I realize I could also use a combination of different size pots. I just want to know peoples experiences and opinions on multiple plants in a pot. Thank you.
