i'd suggest you not chop the one your buddy said was a 'male' as 5 weeks from
seed is awful early to display sex.

also, the canoeing could be due to a ph issue so check your ph, it should be
somewhere between 6 and 7, any lower and it's too acidic, any higher and
it's to alkaline.

btw, those two in the same pot, one way to separate them would be to take
cuttings from them and pot the rooted cuts into separate pots.

you could also just repot them if they are big enough, just be gentle with the roots,
and you don't have to be manic about it, they can take more abuse than you'd think.

to illustrate what roots can take, here are a couple of pics of one i re-vegged
after i harvested it, note the bread knive i used to chop the rootball down to
size. (btw, this plant recovered very nicely and continues to supply me with a
steady supply of cuttings)

I have started many other times before but got bugged out and removed them from the house or the yard. I am working with a 400 Watts HPS, carbon filter, and hey are in a closet I have 5 plants and the sex is unknown.
