The meter just arrived. The local water is ph 7.2 from the tap and 7.1 after a pass thru the household carbon filter. I don??t think I??ll even bother to filter it as the baddies seem to be minimal?..and (no softener involved.) I??ll gradually reduce ph starting in the morning. My nutrient plan will be ??Latewood??s Legacy? http://boards.cannabis.com/hydroponi...iscussion.html
I know that I??ll turn out to be a total pest waiting?.waiting?..waiting. I??m sure it??ll turn out to be a good thing in the end with more time to study.

Your comments on an idea that I??ve been tossing around, if you will.
Sprout seeds?grow em???.clone em???.sex em???..grow em???.flower em??. That??s way too much time for an active imagination. I have an idea?..whoda thunk it.
(The buckets have 6? net pots)?..start with clones and instead of vegging in the flower room, pre-veg in 3 or 4? net pots and them simply place the smaller pot into the 6? pot at flower time. Fill in the spaces with Hydroton and Shazam?.off and running.
The pre-veg could be ebb & flow or simpler yet just a bubbler?the hardest part might be coming up with the right tray/s. The smaller net pots for pre-veg would fit into available space nicely. Could cut a couple weeks off of turnaround time.

As you??re all painfully aware?I have no experience?..So lay it on me, what??s the fly in the ointment.

I agree with The Weezard on this.

Well the part about "dat double net gum idea".........

.....not that crazy about the fly.

One more thought about your water. If it is a community well or municipal delivered well water you should keep using the charcoal filter (and keep it updated) to remove any chlorine that may be in it.

The thought I have is: aren't your roots going to be grown thru the small netpots? wouldn't they be bunched up when you move to the bigger netpots? Please correct me if I am wrong:thumbsup:

I was wondering that, too. I'm still a little foggy on how to get a good-sized plant going in a 5 gal. bubble bucket without starting it there in a 5-6" net pot (and wasting space with a small plant in a big bucket until she grows into her house).

I guess if the small net pot has been nested in a small nursery pot, when you transfer to the larger DWC netpot the roots would be contained and you could just let them grow out through the larger netpot as well. (I was originally envisioning trying to "thread" live roots through the holes in a new, larger netpot...:wtf

I'm wondering about pre-cutting / scoring the small netpot so it's a "break-away" operation when you move into the big buckets. Seems like growing through 2 netpots might cause problems, if only from the constraints imposed by the smaller netpot. Or am I not following the procedure correctly?
    Need advice wth plant problems?

    Mc Danger & Hermie,

You hit the nail on the head as to my initial concern. The thing that makes me think that it??s possible is that I watch cloning videos on YouTube. The clone comes out of a cloner with 12-18? roots. They take the clone and wind the root around in a circle into a tiny little 3 to 4? pot. Their nurseries are huge?.so they??ve been successful a lot. I??m just wondering if the plant cares as much as it??s hard on our eyes.
I set up my buckets with liquid level indicators with hopes that I??ll be able to adjust the liquid quite precisely (that remains to be seen) I will know exactly the height of the bottom of the net pot. My least concern is the roots finding their way through both pots. They??ll already be thru the first pot and just as a clone would have to do?.find it??s way through the second one.

I was wondering that, too. I'm still a little foggy on how to get a good-sized plant going in a 5 gal. bubble bucket without starting it there in a 5-6" net pot (and wasting space with a small plant in a big bucket until she grows into her house).
Well, isn??t it initially started in a 1?? oasis cube? It likely wouldn??t eliminate the veg completely?.but maybe a running start wouldn??t hurt

Wont the roots simply be growing down, it??s not soil. I actually imagined the smaller pot inside surrounded by Hydroton then again surrounded by the 6? pot to be adding a little structure to the whole affair. I'll be scrog-ing so a little bending and levering around is going to happen.

I add this to get your thoughts?.please criticize away.

Laker game starts in a few minutes,

    I??ll be bock

Another YouTube video. In the Jorge Cervantes Ultimate grow series (if I remember correctly) He takes out the scissors and trims the roots. I wont look for it tonight, but if you remind me I??ll try to track down exactly which video.

Horsemanrocks??.but in the first half, the Lakers suck!

You can trim roots, just like you trim the upper part of a plant.
But do not ripped them, crush them or mutilate them; with damage comes rot.
Just cut them with a sharp knife or scissors, and don't try to cut more then a 1/3 of the root mass off. Won't hurt the plant at all, some strains it won't even slow them down some strains will need a couple of days to recover and start growing again.

When your roots grow, you'll see two types, long large roots that tend to grow straight down, these are tap roots and look for water. The smaller hairier roots are the air roots, that fan out closer to the surface looking for oxygen and probably co2 also. (some debate about the roots using co2, some science to support it).

Dutch Masters makes a product called Zone, acts as a bio-fungicide and general healthy root promoter. Works well in recirc systems.

As ??my room? nears completion, and the little one??s having such a long way to go?.I??ll need a project. It looks like the pre-veg tray is gonna fly. It won??t even be necessary the first time around as I won??t even have clones in waiting. I suppose that if worse comes to worse?..and I become impatient?..which has happened in the past, I could go out and buy some clones.
I found some slab trays that fit my space?.and lids pre-cutout for the small net pots. (The tray is approx 40x8x4)
1st question: Any opinions as to just make it a bubble tray or is ebb & flow a better idea.
Q2: All my time has been spent with researching DWC and I haven??t spent any time really with ebb & flow. I haven??t a clue as to how to size the pump. (pimping is allowed between consenting adults).
Getting me started on this sites policies about pimping (let us take a little responsibility for our own actions) and personal messages (let us take a little responsibility for our own actions) is exactly WRONG! Subject dropped?.life is supposed to be more fun than that. Anybody notice a little P.T.S.D. showing through. Guess I better not skip the next ??anger management?.

(some debate about the roots using co2, some science to support it).
Oldmac?..I??ve actually thought about that in the past. I haven??t yet even seen the subject approached. If you know of any links?.I??d be interested.

I probably wasn??t as thorough in a previous post as I could have been. I imagine that I??ll be able to set liquid height in my buckets very precisely. If somehow the float valve isn??t exactly as responsive as I want it to be, I??ll shim the controller until I get what I want. And the Lord knows that I??ll have plenty of time to practice.
Anybody interested in schooling me as to liquid level in relationship to bottom of netpot or oasis cube (initially, and then as the roots grow). I??d be obliged.

A little treat for the WeeZard (below)
Don't eat it all at once....you'll get a bellyache!

    as expected,
    Horsemanrocks.........how bout them Lakers!

    No obligation, brah.
    It's paid ahead.:eat:

The actual level is not as critical as one would think.

Anything from 1 inch to 6 inches will do.
    It's all about good aeration.
Good aeration means lotsa bubbles and the popping bubbles will splash surprisingly high.
You will see tiny water beads on the roots 10 inches from the water surface.
A bamboo skewer poked through a hole in the lid and stuck into a cork makes a dandy, bubba kine, level monitor.:rastasmoke:
