    Germination help for a newbie:)

Hi everyone, i am a complete newbie and im looking for some help geminating some seeds-i have read many germination topics but still have some specific questions i cant quite find the aunsers too, these are incredibly noobish questions so please exscuse my complete lack of knolage

i have about 25 bagseeds, about 17 yellow/white and the rest darker and spotty, i really dont know what im doing and have just placed a few in a cup of water about 3 days ago, nothings happened..however i did crack a seed open out of interest and there certainly seemed too be something going on inside, i could see a white bit what i assume is the root and a green bit whats the very start of the leaves i guess.

from what i have read they will germinate this way but its not ideal?

    here is my questions..

if i was too place the seeds directly in the soil before germination (1/4 inch down is right?) how damp would i need too make the soil before planting? i read its best too spray lightly a couple of times a day but do i need too wetten the soil thouroughly first?

or the paper towel method..again how damp for the paper towl? and should i just place the seeds on top or place them inside a gently folded towel?

the seeds i have in a cup of water, would it be best too move too another method with these seeds, or leave them and use the remaining seeds too try the other methods?

sorry for the newbie questions, any advice would be much appreciated

when germinating, you want to keep the seeds in a dark place and a bit of heat will help. i have been using the paper towel method, don't touch the seeds, use tweezers and dampen the paper towel but not soaked, with room temp. ph 6.8 water. fold the paper towel over the seeds and put it between 2 plates so it is in the dark, check it a few times a day to see it it needs to be re-dampened. i also use a heating blanket on low setting, all seeds take a different amount of time to crack, the best time to plant is when the white tap root is about a cenimeter long, white root down just under the soil. hope this helps:thumbsup:

sorry for the confusion, i mean tommorow when i try the paper towel method, and place the towel beetwen two plates too keep the light out, would it be good too put it in the airing cupbord? im not sure if its called the same where you live but basicly its a cupbord with the hot water boiler in it , and also a load of towels and bed sheets and stuff its nice and warm in there, im wondering if it might be a little too warm though, is there a tempreture that would be the limit as too how hot they can germinate in?

thank you for your help and patcience with a newbie lol
