Lost my original copy and could not remember which side went up, so I just bought a new copy.

Had I thought it through,
the shape of the seeds gives a clue.

Falling to ground, I'd guess, from the aerodynamics, that most of them land pointy side up
Kind like a teardrop.
(No, wait, small drops of liquid are round when falling. Judging from all the high-speed photos I've seen.)
But the falling comment still stands.

I only had 5 seeds, so I looked it up before I planted them.

And, if you think about the need to shed the husk it makes even more sense.
The stem's curve gives it leverage and pulling the partially opened husk through the soil in that direction helps to open and remove it.
Since I started doing it this way, I have not had to "help" one seedling shed it's husk.
The husks stay in the soil.

Think they are just about as far along too. what day did you seed yours? How long are you planing on veggin them? Oh and we are using same Veg fert. I use FF stuff for flower though. Glad to see you are watching my log as well.

Hey, I've used the aluminum muffin tins with peat pucks. That works good. Looking fine, 'muffin top' (that's where your gut squishes out of your drawers all around the front, sides, back. Pretty, eh? lol

Muffin tops just means good livin', right? It's good to have you on-board here, Shov, especially since you're growin' out some SSH as I type. My lil' SSH seedlings seem to be doing pretty well right now, but I've got plenty o' time to mess things up, so pull up a chair and watch me smash some watermelons with my big sledgehammer!

Nice selection of strains! I'm actually just starting some super silver haze seeds myself. I hear hazes are pretty difficult to grow. Any tips you can give me like more/less nutes, large/small pot, etc?

gandalf, it's a pleasure to have you along for the ride - I know I've seen some of your outdoor grows on this board, so it's nice having another outdoorsman looking over this grow. I've not messed with SSH before, but have grown some Colombian Red Haze last season. It was a really slow grower, and it took a long while to flower (90 days); but, it was pretty hardy from what I remember. If you're just starting your SSH, I'm lookin' forward to your log too. Shovelhandle has a SSH grow going on right now, and there may be another somewhere; it seems like I remember DTRave growin' some out not long ago too. It sure is some quality smoke, so I'm lookin' forward to seeing it firsthand from start to finish.

Just catching up with your log and I must say they are starting to look wonderful....Can't wait to see how your SSH comes out....I grew SH in my last grow and I was happy with it. Was not as hard as I thought it would be, but I def. could have done things better!

Weezard, I always appreciate your presence and all wisdom you bring along. You have a way with your words too. And, thanks for these photos and comments - I had always assumed the tap root would head straight South, but it appears I was incorrect.

I've attached a pic of the approximate condition of my beans upon planting in the peat pellets. I always place the longer taproot well down in the pellet, with the cap marginally under peat. I wonder if it still dances a lil' jig before poppin' its head above the peat to spread its cotyledons?

I'll be interested in Dive's experiments in this regard. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, Weezard! You are always lookin' to help folks out, and I'm always needin' help, so we make a pretty good team, eh?

With your additional explanation, I understand even better; I've always let my taproots grow out a bit longer rather than plant them in the peat pellets once I see a smidge of root. I thought I was doing the beans a favor, but I've always had problems with them not shedding their caps - probably 1 of 4 beans I have to provide an assist; and, I've even screwed that up a time or 5! Serious and sincere thanks to you for the pics, but also for the follow up, my friend! Mahalo!

roy, it's good to see you - I just discovered your log not long ago, and you have me seriously interested in those Blue/Red/Orange UFO LEDs. I'll definitely stay tuned to your log to see how your UFOs work - seems like you have a Blue only spectrum for veg, as well as a double spectrum Red/Blue for general usage, but you recommended the trip spectrum?

As for the times on my LS - the 2d batch is at Day 12 Veg, and the 3rd Batch is at Day 3 Veg. My 2d batch has 1 LS, and the 3rd Batch has 2 more - I goofed on 1 LS in my 2d batch and assisted its cap off too early - wish I had seen Weezard's post earlier! I really need to break down and get some good ferts, man; I just hate to see all of the stuff I have go to waste. FF is at the top of the heap from everything I've read. I'm looking forward to following your log, my friend, and thanks for stopping in mine!

P.S. Almost forgot to answer the veg length question - they're outside, so they're on their own timers. I'm interested to see when they'll pop flowers, as I got 2 grows in last year due to an unexpected autoflower on my 1st grow - the Mighty Freeze.

Hey guy's i been thinkin about it...And what i decided is this-Germinated seed's are not gonna act the same as a seed that germed in the soil.If I have 1-2 inch tap root already..then I am beyond this curving theory,and therefor will do fine too plant root down.However ....If i germ the seed in soil, I may want to place it as seen in the pic's.That's what im thinkin,Deal w/it.

Weezard, as I've said before you have a way with words! Speaking of which, thanks for teaching me another Hawaiin word - I had to look up the Alii - what in the heck did we do before the internet? I'm surprised libraries are not out of business!

Lastly, thanks for confirming the jig has been jigged when the taproot has lengthened beyond the hook. If I were to ever get down to the islands, I would love to ease back with you - you know how much Elvis loved the islands of Hawaii! Have a great day, brah!

Dive, you reached the same exact conclusion as Weezard - see his post above following my germinated seeds pic analysis. It's really sweet having experienced growers around - maybe 1 day I will be among your ranks. I know I'll have a good time getting there in the meantime.

Jake I always look forward to your grows. All the insight you have as young grower! I can't wait to what the SSH comes out with in the end product. So I have a question.... Are you using cfls? The plants look healthy and that sour cream is going to blow your shoes and socks off on the frist hit. Lifes a garden.. Harvest the bitch! LOL. Sorry jack herrer always puts me in a funny mood in the morning
