Confused about carbon scrubber-please help

I have done alot of research on here about exhaust and carbon scrubbers. I read the DIY section about carbon scrubbers but I don't understand if that device is inserted in the ductwork or simply sitting outside the cabinet. And if it is inside the ductwork infront of the exhaust fan, how is this attached for maximum efficiency? Thanks alot!

a carbon filter is just like the airfilter on your car, but instead of making sure nothing gets sucked up into your motor, it keeps the smell from getting sucked up by the fans and pushed outside.

and yes as with any kind of filter it will restrict some airflow. but as long as if you incorperate it into the planning of your room, you will shouldnt have a problem. there is a formula somewhere on here that will tell you how to figure out what size of filter, fan, ducting, and everything you will need for your application.
