I NEED HELP! W/ PEAT POTS!!

I was wondering i have good $$ seeds and they are germinating in paper towel method rite now.. I was wondering if it would be ok if i got some fox farm soil and planted the germinated seeds in the little peat pots just to get them going indoors for a week or 2 and then bring them outside and plant them in the 5 gallon buckets i have??? I'm wondering if the peat pots will biodegrade in the bucket and would the plant be ok??? Also if i should use a different method please let me know!! Thanks Guys any responses would be great!!!

Hi, The peat pots are fine I use them all the time, the roots will grow through them. As far as the soil I have heard that some of the FF soils can be a little hot for seedlings you'll want something with very light nutes a starter mix.

Supposedly those peat pots are a no go. They don't deteriorate like they should. I'd recommend just planting the seed with the tap root straight into your medium. Not a big pot though, start small and work up to the 5 gallon buckets.

Also....that FF may be a little too harsh for seedlings. May need something organic to start then transplant in the FF.

The pots will biodegrade, but how long it takes them to biodegrade isn't really up to you... it's up to the pots. If they don't break down as soon as you want them to, then they're going to restrict root growth until they do. It's for this reason that I don't use them, but I have successfully used the peat pellets for both cloning and starting seeds. While I prefer now to start my seeds by planting them in soil after germinating them, I have had plenty of seeds that did very well being started in them. If you decide to use the pellets, be sure to remove the mesh netting when the roots start poking through, and be extra careful not to let them dry out, which can happen fast.

And I'd also wait and use the FF after your first transplant, as seedlings don't need nutrients for at least the first couple of weeks. Try to get your hands on a seedling starter mix if you're going to plant the seeds directly in the soil, or you might consider those peat pellets.

I did my current grow with pea pots and wont be doing that again. Results are cool but like the above poster stated they break down on their own time table. I wish I would have cut the mesh in peat pucks and not have used the pea pots. Fox Farm seed starter with mycrohaize whatever rules....

Hey im From east coast Massachusetts so i got a few lowryder2 XAk47 auto dwarfs feminized... Also some white skunk and ss thai skunk.... Also got dutch passion purple #1 feminized....and 1 pure gold feminized...once i get them going i will put some pics up on this post and another new post....Thanks for you guys reply's

So if you use these for clones how often do you have to water the pellet to keep it from drying out. I mean you dont want it to be saturated do you due to root rot and or fungi developing. Whats a good way to gauge that the pellet has the right amount of moisture at all times?
