First time grower here, guys, so have mercy.

I'm presoaking some seeds using the paper towel method. I'm keeping the seeds warm on moist paper towels on a paper plate, keeping my hands washed, using purified spring water at room temperature. It has been 48 hours since the seeds were placed, and no roots have emerged, no shells have cracked. Am i doing something wrong?

Be patient and give it another day or 2 as it may not have soaked all the moisture in the seeds yet....I personally have never used the paper towel method so I'm not much help, but you could always buy some peat pods from wal-mart! They are like $2 for 12 of them with a humidity dome that comes with them! I find this to be the best thing for me so far :thumbsup:

I've used the paper towel method many times with great success. just give it a couple of days. If no tap roots after 7 days, your seeds are no good. usually though they'll pop on day 3, I bet tommorrow you'll be ready to stick one in the dirt.

Yes, they are the easiest if you ask me. I have heard of people having root bound problems using peat pods, but I have never had a problem except for the occasional no rooting seed, but I think it's the seed and not the soil that is causing that problem. Otherwise I've had great success with using them. What you do is soak them in warm water until they expand and look like the picture below. Then you fluff the pod up a bit. I usually just give it a little squeeze until the pod cracks a bit, then I firm it to how I like it. After that, I sow the seed about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the soil with the top pointed down as the seed cracks from the top and the root penetrates down. Also, the reason I do it is because just putting the seed any which way in the pods they will have the tendency to not grow up out the dirt a lot of times. Then cover them in the humidity dome and put it in a dark warm place (75-80F) and wait until they sprout then prop open the dome for another day or so. In which time the cotelydon (sp?) leaves will open up exposing the first set of seedling leaves. Usually around that time they should def. have a little bit of rooting coming from underneath the pods. Fill up some nice size dixie cups with an organic soil and water it. After you let the soil run off a bit, make a little hole in the cup for the peat pod and fill around it (also around the plants stem). Then place them under a lighting regimen of either 18/6, 20/4, or 24/0. Then give them your TLC and watch them grow! :thumbsup:

whats the brand name because im looking on wal mart.com to see if I Can find it.. I dont feel like going all the way up to wal mart only for it not to be there

you won't find them on the website but I guarantee they will be there in the garden section. If you can't find them there get them at lowes or home depot. They carry them also....
