Let the fear-mongering officially begin. I'm not saying they shouldn't prepare for the worst here, but this publicizing it won't accomplish anything.

If you want to fear something, try AIDS or cancer, those are proven killers.
World gov'ts race to contain swine flu outbreak <-- Suspected death toll is now 103...

I'm not terrified, or fearful, yet, just a little worried. Of course I can't do anything about from here... except worry... I heard about this just a couple days ago, and things seem to be getting worse. I saw a headline about the U.S banning pork... wonder how that's going to affect things over there with food prices already very high.

It's also not just the virus that worries me, but all of the events which may come because of this.... school's and workplaces closing, quaratines, force vaccinations, etc.

I'm not saying it doesn't have the potential to be catastrophic. It just seems to me every time we get scared about one of these things they turn out not to be very bad. The main thing I will be interested to learn is what the survival rate is. They didn't mention in that article approximately how many people have been confirmed ill with it.

The fact cases have been reported in several different countries already does worry me a bit. Initially, the way people were talking, I thought cases had only popped up in Mexico so far.

Something else to look at is who the virus is actually killing. If it's elderly people and children like most, or if it is killing healthy young adults, like the 1918 virus...

This shit just sounds sooooo sketchy to me. A human flu + bird flu (which baxter has been playing around with Baxter: Product contained live bird flu virus | Canada | News | Toronto Sun) + swine flu.... all together??? I think there is a chance that this was man-made :wtf:

Hopefully this thing goes away like all the others did, but so far it's not like the bird flu which seemed more isolated. Now this thing is in North America, New Zealand, Spain, Israel...

Well, probably not much to worry about since it's Baxter to the rescue! Ill-based Baxter working on swine flu vaccine: Associated Press Business News - MSN Money

Sounds like the 12 monkey's and some fringe science.

I don't care about me I'm getting old enough. Try and save the children.

When you disrepect MOTHER EARTH she will fight back. She will find a way even if it is some mad scientist working in her behalf.

deadly flu's and viruses are and important part of evolution. yeah it will kill off some people, but the strongest will live to reproduce. and that's important. true, I don't want to go out like that, but if it helps to make the human race stronger for many more generations of reproduction, then so be it.

International Human Cases of Swine Flu Infection
See: World Health OrganizationExternal Web Site Policy.

Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in the United States. Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection also have been identified internationally. The current U.S. case count is provided below.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection and whether additional people have been infected with swine influenza viruses.

CDC is working very closely with officials in states where human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) have been identified, as well as with health officials in Mexico, Canada and the World Health Organization. This includes deploying staff domestically and internationally to provide guidance and technical support. CDC has activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate this investigation.

Laboratory testing has found the swine influenza A (H1N1) virus susceptible to the prescription antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir and has issued interim guidance for the use of these drugs to treat and prevent infection with swine influenza viruses. CDC also has prepared interim guidance on how to care for people who are sick and interim guidance on the use of face masks in a community setting where spread of this swine flu virus has been detected. This is a rapidly evolving situation and CDC will provide new information as it becomes available.
