Torturing terrorists wont stop them... just think about the ones who participated of the 911 attacks... if they were willing to be burnt and exploded to pieces during their action, do you think they would care about being tortured?
Remember that there is a heaven with 72 virgins waiting for them to please them for all the eternity... how does it compare with some finite days (or weeks of even years) of suffering in this earth? And maybe they believe that greater their suffering here greater will be their reward there... so being tortured here would be even an advantage for them...

i don't think there is an underlying conspiracy to invoke martial law or any such grandstand play. brak is merely trying to get back some of the support he has lost from the rabid anti-bush crowd. as his numbers tank, he needs a diversion to keep even his own party from turning on him. just like the few well publicized vietnam era trials; they may find a minor scapegoat or two to feed to the wolves, but it's all for show. the democrats used an unpopular war (is there any other kind these days?) to paint their opponents with a broad brush and win the lion's share of the elected positions. now that they find they can do nothing but continue on their predecessors' course, they all fear being soiled with that same brush. all of our current crises can be traced back, at least in part, to the failures of the same ideologies that they are now attempting to expand upon and i'm sure they see another witch hunt as just one more circus they can toss in front of the american public to supplement the crusts of bread they are already throwing to us.

not that the messiah wouldn't jump at a chance to cage up the dissenters. he has even made sure we are all aware of just who those enemies of the state may be, should he feel it necessary to silence any of us. you may notice that the powers of the patriot act have become back page news, even though they are still in effect. none of our keepers are so foolish as to give up such hard won control, knowing that they would never be able to regain that power without showing themselves to be the power hungry tyrants they really are.

As to the OP. I dislike Obama greatly. However I haven't yet determined if he is actually trying to destroy us or if he simply believes these changes will benefit us.

It is clear to me he is extremely manipulative and a liar, but that doesn't exactly separate him from the majority of his kind. I'm not sure if he truly believes Socialism will benefit our nation or if he is just fundamentally and fanatically opposed to Capitalism.

I suppose he could be so extreme and confidant in his ill-informed ideology he doesn't exactly think of the consequences but instead concludes we must fix these illusionary problem's ASAP. I'm not saying our country wasn't facing problems when he took office, but I firmly believe they were overblown by the news media. Not to mention, it should be clear at this point, Wall Street doesn't respond well when Obama comes on television and proclaims this is the worst economy since the Great Depression.

I'm rambling a bit, and keep noticing an abundance of typos. I will agree his policies are harming our nation greatly, but I can't bring myself to conclude he his consciously evil. It is certainly a possibility though. Evil men have been in positions of power many times before.

Ultimately, it is certainly a possibility but I don't think anyone has enough evidence to bring me to that point of view at this time.

Not to mention, it sounds way to much like the 9-11 theorists who think the "Bush Crime Family" were responsible. I loath those people and am very wary of becoming their antithesis.

does it really matter which category he fits into? his concepts of big, intrusive government and legislated social change run contrary to the very essence of the american way of life and are a sure road to the destruction of the individual freedoms that have given this country its advantage for over two hundred years. even victory through the means of the ideologies of the liberal establishment spells the destruction of the liberties we all seem to take for granted. yes, war can be ended through surrender and poverty can be abolished through theft, but those are such hollow victories. we can make all men's lives meaningful if we tear down those superior few and embrace a universal mediocrity, but that is the path to stagnation and an ever eroding standard of living. there is a price to pay for each advance made by mankind, but aren't the rights of the individual too high a price for the illusion of fairness and a false sense of moral superiority?

He's no humanitarian. If he cared he could end the torture with one small movement of his pen. And he should. You create more terrorists by torturing than you stop. Anybody think any of those innocent people that were imprisoned and tortured are going to love America? Nope they'll go home tell there families, there friends, anyone who will listen. And they will become terrorists because they see us as the terrorists. A never ending war is all it promotes. WHich is exactly what our leaders want.
