Stock restriction=growth restriction, Release of restriction=full flower power?

I heard from a past outdoor grower that to keep his plants from growing too big outside he would grow them through the top neck of a pop bottle when the were small. Once the stalk grew so big around the restriction of the ring prevented the plants from being able to pass enough nurishment up the stalk to the plant to grow more, so the plant remained stunted and grew small and brough in very respectable harvests.

I like the idea during veg but it seems to me that it would work against you come flower time when the extra nutrients are needed. So I'm wondering what would happen if I "banded" them during veg, and once all the plants start producing early flower buds cutting the band and allowing full flow to resume and hopefully have it directed into the flowers. I also figure that since the plant can't move what it needs up the plant when it is banded that it will concentrate more on staorage and development in the root system, which will also add to large flower growth with less vegitation once the band is released.

I wonder though how the plant will fare outside with the exposure of removing the band from the stalk, as well as the structure of the stalk being able to hold the plant up. Maybe there is some way I can cut the band and safely cover the "open wound" with a new "bark" that has the give to allow the stalk to expand to it's full potential. I also wonder if I would be better off removing the band earlier in flower so the plant has a chance to build up while it switches over to flower and be ready to run full throttle?

Any ideas or brainstorming that comes to mind?

smaller pot/hole = smaller plant and less roots.

Yeah that's growing 101 and obvious. Around here the roots have no problem making use of all the soil around and easily penetrates the ground to take the space it needs. The roots wouldn't be restricted at all. From first hand experience with root restriction indoors in small pots I would say it is nothing but trouble and is a waste of growing skills if you are trying to be efficient.

    Hey CC,
Sounds interesting. Are you just worried about the size of the plants? I just lst my plants outside to keep them from stretching into the sky..But maybe you have more methods to the madness behind this?
I would think that banding the stock to hold back nutrients can not be healthy for the plant? All of that root holding the nutrients sounds kinda fishy to me:wtf: But who knows,, gotta experiment to learn. Maybe try it on one or two plants and compare the results?

Yes I see you pulling at my apron! you've gotten my attention, you've always had it. However I'm sorry I committed myself to you to help you with your soil issue, I never should have, becasue even though I wasn't as busy as I am now I knew I was pressed for time and shouldn't be taking on more projects. The reason I havn't gotten back to you is becasue I'm so limited in my tiem that I don't even get a chance to check that email, much less reply or make arrangments for my already hectic trips to the city. I've failed you I'm bad, I'm sorry. But realistically with a toddler, 3 home run businesses, and being 8 months pregnant I really do have bigger priorities than you.

I feel some horibble Karma will come of this towards me but I have to prioritize my life, and you have to by finding someone who will make you a priority, but honestly that's not me.

Once again I apologize, I know what it's like to count on someone who said they would be there then falls through.
