how are you testing the PH of the run-off? you really need a meter to test run-off accuratly... if you are using regular liquid indicator the test will be inccurate because your run-off water won;t be clear and will skew the results. It'll be tinted from the soil, nutes, etc.

assuming your test was accurate... puttnig in ph 7.2 water and getting 5.6 run-off would mean that your actual soil PH would probably be a high 4.x number which would be very acidic and would kill your plant for sure, so I think its safe to say that something is up with your test results
