Early Flowering and Water Touching Buds Question
Hey guys and gals,
Thanks in advance for your time and help. I'm a long time lurker and I've read lots of grow logs and posts over the years. I have also tried to research both these questions but can't seem to get a straight answer. I recently moved to Cali (Norcal) and got a lil grow going with my medical card. I have two questions.
I got clones a little early I think. (Around beg. of March). It was still to cold in my area to put them outside so they have been indoors on a window sill where they receive about a half days worth of sun. They are growing but the problem is they are already starting to flower. A couple are still really small and I don't think there is anyway to flower them this early. I live on a farm and the plan is to get them outdoors but it's still a bit cold at night.
1. So what's going to happen when I stick my flowering babies outside and all of a sudden they get veg. light hours. I've read some people say they will be fine and revert to veg. Others say it could be to much stress and they go hermie. Or will they just flower and be small and not yield much? Could I pick off the buds? I would rather not ... seems like I would easily damage the plants. My smallest is prob 3-4 inches and largest is prob 6-12 inches. I do not have a digital camera.
2. A buddy of mine said that water shouldn't touch the buds or they will rot. Today while watering I def. got some water on the buds. So I'm wondering how big of a problem this is. It might not be that big of a deal since I will hopefully get them to veg more. But if this was my next grow is getting water on the buds (at any point in their life cycle) something that you guys are extremely careful about at all times or is a little water not really a big deal? I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere I looked.
I didn't want to be one of those people that just posts one line and expects everyone to give them answers. Sorry if I made post to long. I really appreciate the help! :hippy:

Early Flowering and Water Touching Buds Question
As far as reverting to veg when you transplant outside someone else will have to tackle that one.
When you say that they are already flowering, what do you mean? Are there a couple pistils and a small calyx at some nodes, or are there clusters of them at the nodes and top?
My guess is that you are seeing preflowers emerge as your plant goes from the clone stage to rooted vegetative plant. You have to remember that your clone is genetically as old as the mother, and they come off the plant with enough maturity to be directly flowered once rooted, of course yield will suffer, but it's a great way to fill a short space. It is perfectly normal to see pistils at the nodes of vegging plants, as long as they aren't coming in clusters you should be good.
When they are talking about H2o on your buds, they are referring to fully formed buds. The reason is that the flowers of cannabis are dense and if they are drenched and not allowed to dry, mold and rot can become issues for you.
Getting "some water" on buds isn't cause for panic by itself. If you feel you did something negative, just monitor where it happened and post any changes in status on here. I'm sure someone will come along to help.

Early Flowering and Water Touching Buds Question
irydyum,
Thanks for the help man. They def. are little buds and seem to be more than just preflower little pistils. Also on top of plant. The reason I say they are more than preflower is cause they are starting to look like the buds you smoke. They're nugs
Luckily a guy I'm living with has a few years worth of grows under his belt and he's been helping me out. He thinks once I get the girls out in our secret spot with some high nitrogen bat guano and lots of sun they'll be O.K. Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
Also thanks for explaining the water on the buds. I was wondering how that worked and I understand now.
Loc Nar,
Thanks for the backup. I can't get any lights in there but I'm hoping they'll do alright outside. If they live and go veg. they should have plenty of time to get huge before fall rolls around.
Thanks for the wise words dudes. I appreciate the help. :rastasmoke:
