The Oregon legislature is looking at rescheduling marijuana to a Schedule 2 or Higher. YAY! I just listed to some of the public hearing. There was not one person there against it.

Marinol is a schedule 3 at the federal level.

Marijuana is currently listed as a Schedule 1 drug, no medical use but too dangerous for the general populous. Ecstacy, PCP, Heroine are in this class.

Sched 2 includes cocaine, codeine, opium, etc.

Sched 3 includes Marinol (synthesized THC pill), anabolic steroids, codeine combos like Tylenol 3,


If it passes, this could be HUGE for Medical Marijuana!

Interestingly, in the public hearing, I heard no one against it!

Although it would be a huge win in many ways, it could support another bill in the works in Oregon that want's to have the state grow mmj and sell it through the pharmacy system. then have the state tax it at a rate of $100 per ounce. Taxing sick people.

ok, that sounds good until you understand the value different strains of cannabis have on different conditions. one herb does not do all. Let's add that there are many patients for whom poorly grown herb can kill them! Herb infected with molds. Most of us grow organically. You can bet the state wont!

schedule and reschedule as you please, it still reeks of totalitarian control. it is the entire schedule that must be abolished if there is ever to be any chance of real legalization. that damn schedule is merely a device to get around the democratic process and take one more decision out of the hands of the people. this is just another instance of an indolent populace, to self-absorbed to realize that their liberties are being stolen from them every day.

Yeah thats the problem with government control of this issue at all. It all depends on which way the wind is blowing. Next week they might decide to make MJ possession a capital crime. Its why we need to get some of these cases through the federal supreme court. A definite answer of "Is there any reason there should be ANY laws governing this plant?"

this is only one instance of government overreaching its intended purpose. look around, you might be surprised how little of your life is really within your control.

Isn't Oregon considering going to a state supplied system?

The state grows and you buy from them and they get a few bux?

To me this sounds like some left handed attempt at control and reminds me of Bush Cheney.

In Aus every illegal drug is schedule 1. Coke, x, speed, heroin and weed.

Thing is they prescribe Heroin sometimes for severe pain but never prescribe Cannabis. Codeine can be bought OTC. Last year when I had teeth out they hurt like shit so I was taking way too much (according to them) just went to another pharmacy 2 mins drive away and got some more.
Thing is it is easier to get weed you just can't be sure of quality.
These laws aren't even being paid attention to. They need to go.
But again, I am still envious and you should be celebrating that you even have got this far.

The problem is that this still does not deal with the issue of a black market. There is a huge incentive for dealers to sell (high prices). What makes an ounce of weed worth half an ounce of gold? Surely it does not require the cost of one half ounce of gold to produce an ounce of dank, or am i wrong?

Until this price incentive is removed, the unlawful element will continue to take in huge profits, without paying much in taxes.
