why would someone do this?

so this guy that myfriends and i pickup from, he gets mids. the only thing is that my friends know him pretty well, and have been there when he had just picked up. now here is the kicker, this kid gets his mids like nugs. still on the branch, and looking like nugs. then he puts them all on a baking sheet, and compresses them, and sells them as mids.

i was discussing this with my friends and none of us can really figure out what the purpose is. he does this when he gets back to his house, not before he leaves where he got it from, so i dont believe it has anything to do with security in transport.

any ideas?
