HR 1444- Congressional Commission on Civic Service Act
I don't know if anyone's heard about this but apparently Obama has been trying to sneak in measures to create a Congressional Commission on Civil Service into some of the recent house resolutions. He tried to put it into HR 1388 but the whole section was removed shortly before passing. Now its back in HR 1444 which will probably pass very soon.
Here are two important parts
(5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service.
(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
I haven't heard anything about this on any major news network and I don't understand how this could possibly be interpreted as being inconsequential. Does Obama actually think people are just gonna go for this without any sort of resistance?

does this surprise you? this sort of legislated volunteerism is at the heart of governmental control and was a major talking point during brak's campaign. governmental control of banking, manufacturing and labor is needed for the furthering of the totalitarian wet dreams of the fools y'all placed in office over the last few years. the fact that they wish to do it quietly only shows that they know how unpopular the formation of the "obama youth" would be without the proper media indoctrination to soften up the public first.

I remember brining this up a while ago when they posted the equivalent on whitehouse.gov. I can't remember if it was this site or another, but they took it down shortly after posting it and eliminated any possibility of proving the claims. I agree with DON, what did people expect from this man? It wasn't the exact same thing, but was essentially the same. It mentioned requiring all of America's youth to preform a certain amount of community service.
Call it Socialism, Communism, Fascism, etc, they are all virtually the same philosophy. This is what people get for throwing the race card around like it's candy. When we attempted to shed light on this man's totalitarian ideals we were labeled racists'. Liberals shut down dialogue by claiming anyone who pointed out the obvious was a racist.
Good luck reforming cannabis laws under a totalitarian regime... We would have a shot if it were left to the states, but with the amount of power the federal government is amassing, our chances are diminishing daily.
When they require public service from law abiding citizens, do people honestly believe the edicts will stop there?

I was aware that Obama and Rahm Emanuel spoke about this a lot on the campaign and they both stopped talking about it around election time. What surprises me though is the fact that they are not even attempting to come up with some sort of bullshit excuse or explanation for this. Obama has been surprisingly up front about all of his terrible decisions and lies and it doesn't make sense to try to sneakily pass this without any sort of propaganda to go along with it. Once this passes and this commission gets underway, I really don't see anyway they could explain themselves to the mainstream media if they ever pick up on it. Without sounding like total fascists, that is.

Wow.
I agree whole-heartedly, JaggedEdge and Delusions. My initial stance on Obama was that he was well-meaning but probably self-serving and at any rate likely ineffectual in such a bullshit system.
I'm growing more and more uneasy about this guy. Something sinister's going on here.
Before I was skeptical as to how much change he could personally enact--now I'm Delusions has a point, that this is unsettlingly remniscient of fascist uprisings---especially the exploitation of crisis and the huge cult of personality surrounding the leader. Maybe the Enabling Act is coming.
As for the bill in question...fuck. Why not just have an American flag mandatorily tattooed on every citizen's forehead? I don't think the people would particularly care if this came to light....kindly Uncle Obama knows best.
To conclude, fuck him. Get used to saying this while it's still legal, people. I think leaders have known for a while the time is ripe for the toppling of democracy, but Bush couldn't pull it off because of his utter lack of charisma (or intellect for that matter). This guy's smart, magnetic and deadly. I was on the fence before, but this was the final straw.

i think this has been happining for a long time now, maybe even as far back as the great depression.
but yes we are it seems on the same path that hitler took germany. devistating the economy, impoverishing the people, then when the people are starving you give em table scraps and they are happy again.
but after were all done talkin about this lets all make sure that we are signed up for the draft.

There is no evidence he is smart, he has refused to release his grades. I also don't see the charisma. Sure during the campaign he was a fluent and articulate speaker when he memorized his speeches and read off the TelePrompter. Now he talks like someone who has never taken a Speech 101 course.
And umm... we need to umm... go to iraq and umm... discuss umm... this with their umm... leaders.
I think we are actually dealing with a mass manipulation of populace. Simply look at how he uses the our technology to stay in constant contact with the population. He has a tv channel, a myspace page, facebook page, youtube channel, and I think he even has a radio station (I'm not sure on that one.)
At first I thought it was positive to make the people think they actually had a say in what's going on, now I'm beginning to believe it is simply being used as a pulpit to spread his propaganda. I think the sheer number of times he say's "crisis" is support to the above.
I'm waiting for "1984" to arrive so I can read it again. I'm curious what similarities there are between Orwell's vision and what is occurring today in both our nation and around the world.
