That quoted section is goofy. "Characteristic" is 1. Nf3, but "usual" is just a transposition from an open or semi-open game? :wtf:

This is starting to read, "Get your pawn out to K4 FIRST, and if you notice your opponent is asleep at the wheel, do a quick kingside castle."

I guess the part that's got me curious is that dang fianchetto. KN2 seems like an ineffective place to have white's bishop. Even if I move the knight out of the bishop's way, it'll still take another move to develop the bishop--otherwise he's just pointed at well-protected pawns. (This happened before, too.) But this KIA thing was popular for a long time. There must be a way the thing untangles itself for it ever to have been considered useful. THAT'S what I wanna see.
