    Not a linear thinker, or tinker.

    Sometimes it's amusing to play things looser, in terms of experimental controls--just change a parameter and try to observe its effects--as opposed to the more formal process of formulating a hypothesis, and watching for results in a more narrow range that directly relate to your ponderings.

    And, of course, "Anything worth doing..."

    And not to imply that bed-growing implies a lack of anything...I've seen it used in commercial horticulture with beds so huge that the tables would support power tillers to break up the resulting root mass. It seemed to me like the plants ignored each other's roots in this environment, and that they acted as they would when grown outside (which was certainly the intent with that setup). I was just a flunky on these things, though. Jes' a trabajador, not da hefe. Many years ago. Wouldn't have known what to look for.

    Them kids was pre-spaced and hand thinned, most likely.
    I do have a small clump of seeds inna ground here.

    'bout 7 seedlings inna cluster.
    Lookin' like a featherduster.
    Topside, dey all nice and sweet.
    But inna mud, dey fight, wit' feet?

    Ah dunno yet, pulled up a seat.
    To see who suffers sad defeat,
    an' which one be da bes' athlete.

    But my thought last night (right before I started drooling on myself) was that there might be some 'recognition' of "electrical" activity in nearby roots related to ionic exchanges. I guess this is just semantics; chemical changes are "electrical" at some level. Though maybe you're looking for a combination of effects that ultimately produces an identifiable "chemical signature."

    Grand idea! 6 of 1....

    From a Darwinian perspective, one might expect more mutual inhibition between closely related strains than between specimens that might provide an advantageous genetic diversity. But that's just of the toppa my head; you may have debunked this already.

    Had not even thought of that.
    The plot thickens.

    Then there's the question of: "Is a male plant more welcome next to a female than, say, another female plant?" Maybe they got some underwater pheromone perfume or suppin? Jus' throwing some thoughts out there...:hippy:
    Zackary!
    Pheromones, scent, ethylene, etc., above and below.
    From tippy-top to stinky toe.

    My space, and mind are quite limited, so I'm ju's lookin' at wroot wrestling for now.

    Sorry to stall. Needed to think about this. Shoulda paid closer attention earlier, but had/got a lot going on. Got dat new computer, and some new stuff to learn. Trying to get some gardening done, too. Prolly set up a second tomato DWC with soil and rocks, cause the first one seems to be doing OK, too.

    How guys! How's it going? Your Chess&Bless club seems to be rockin' on Sorry to bother you again with my petty problems but still was hoping if you had a minute or two to spare and could swing by the Stealthy Led thread..? I'm almost done with the project, just a few adjustements and I'm good. Would really appreciate your help! :thumbsup:

    Just what I thought you'd do.

    I think the next few moves are going to be quite instructional;
    Once the midgame begins, if development is well done, combinations just appear!

    Q X Q!

    Which kinda forces;
    N X Q
    Which begets
    N X BP
    And that, will force a rook move, or a trade.
    The trade is a disaster, so prolly;
    R - KN1.
    That allows my naughty Knigget to "escape back to lake" with
    N - KN5 discovering a bishop attack on the King's rook.

    There is no interpose and no "greater threat"
    So;
    R - KR1 ,
    Or lose it.

    And that allows;
    N - KB3. "Back to lake"
    And white is down an important pawn.
    And black picks up a 3 move lead and a superior position.

    So much for Wiki-tutoring, yah?
    The early fianchetto will only work against a greedy and/or hasty opponents.

    A good played ignores "odd" openings and just concentrates on his own development.

    Perhaps you'll find a flaw in my analysis.:stoned:
    If not, the board should look like this;
    [attachment=o238749]
    and it's your move.

    Green?

    Yep. Looks right. I almost initiated the queen trade, but looked that was gonna take care of itself. At least it un-pinned my knight.

    N x P (QN5)

    I trust ya'll are safe, looks like your tsunami ran outta steam before it could make landfall onna island. Be careful. DH

    No want him chewin' on my anchor pawn.

    I used to remove my queen from the board as a handicap when playing new guys.
    Bad idea, they didn't learn about queens.
    Now, I jus' look for the best move, and play the second best move as a handicap.
    Or, :stoned::stoned::stoned: 'til I have no idea what's da bes' move.:rastasmoke:
    Bottom line?
    You'll do much better not trading queens with me in future
    games.

    I play well without a queen.

    Maybe next game the theme will be "Queen power".
    Nuttin' stings more dan an unexpected "Bitch slap".

    And thank good ol' "turkey guts" fo' me fo' correctin' dat series of errors to da Jujubee's mind.

    A queen in my hands is about as effective as a sniper rifle in the hands of a five-year-old. We can kinda make it work, but....

    If I've seen a chance to trade, I've taken it. Them things is dangerous, and figure one's gotta be more valuable to you than to me. Especially after the board clears out a little and she can reach out for a ways without running into (and away from) lesser pieces. So, yeah, I'd like to see how to use one. Queen power game sounds good.

    Getting both knights out there early was fun, though.
