ANNAPOLIS â?? A Montgomery County lawmaker is pushing legislation that would require Maryland create a task force to study medical marijuana issues.


Delegate Henry Heller says he doesnâ??t use medical marijuana himself. Some of Hellerâ??s neighbors, however, in a Silver Spring senior community have told him they wanted to use it to treat serious illness but they were afraid of running afoul of the law.

The state has less severe fines for people convicted of marijuana possession who can demonstrate medical necessity for the drug, but they can still be arrested.

A number of medical marijuana advocates told the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday that Maryland is sending mixed messages about using marijuana to provide relief from debilitating illnesses such as cancer or HIV.

well i guess thats a start...its amazing how much my state is influenced by the gov't b/c of how close we are to DC. the first person responding to that article on that MD newspaper website wrote, "This state is a joke . Our Elected Officials need to stop drugs , drug dealers and violent criminals running wild in our state .When is this maddness going to end ? Any Elected Official who votes in favor of this ,should be Voted out of Office . Better yet Impeached them ."

i mean c'mon...thats wat some ppl in my state honestly believe...its rediculous...i know a friend who was arrested for a few leaves of shake and some thc left in his weed jar...went to jail for a night for it. let alone had to do 100hours of community service to get this off his record for "possession" so he could get a job...i love maryland but hate the laws here
