    mh light and hps light.

    hi guys i got a mh light and ballast and also got a hps light and ballast.. just wondering can i connect these to timers of any sort or is there specifics?? also are these very dangerous for fires any one with experience drop me a line.. very new to this stuff.

    a timer will work with any bulb, but most cheaper timers can't handle a high ampage that the ballasts pull via the timers plug, and they break quickly.

    You can use something called a contactor that sits in between both and is rated for the ampage, or you could just buy a decent timer. Checkout my grow log i think theres pictures, if there isn't i'll add some for you.

    MH and HPS bulbs get very hot indeed and without adequate cooling are an extremely dangerous fire hazard. If you are not sure it's going to stay under 65C (on the bulb) it IS and WILL easily become a fire hazard if not looked after. Adequate cooling removes this problem altogether. Smaller wattage's like 125W and 250W will be safer but can still be dangerous if not respected.

    appreciate the help man sound. will the pc fans do the job for keeping temp down??

    ive tried this and the basic answer is no way

    might be possible with 10 and a cold room ambient. maybe. with a LOT of a LOT LOT LOT perserverance be careful man. lol dont be scared but do be wise
