I have heard that they do not get as hot as other bulbs. Since you are suppose to be able to use them with no reflector. Which would mean you probably could get them couple inches closer to plants. But i have not used one personally, or seen one used. But if you are going to use a reflector with it why not just get a different bulb.?"600 Watt Solarmax Super HPS Plant Grow Bulb"Initial Lumens 95,000" Just aint heard alot about them bulbs, But they might be better than the solarmax.
