    seed problems

In October I purchased seeds from seed boutique. Those I planted then all popped fine.

The remaining seeds were stored in the envelope in an office drawer. Now, all the seeds that I've tried to germinate February/ March have done nothing.

I had them soaking in water for weeks in a warm area, I ended up putting some in grow plugs..nothing has helped. Is there a more advanced and creative try for this point in the game where I've pretty much given up on them?

Your doing right. Maybe stored wrong. Fridge is better. I would get some more. Thing is you never know how old they are when you get them.

    Thanks for your help.

Fortunately, other than the freebie seeds, I still have all of the genetics preserved in plants and clones. When I lost so much in the deep freeze (January 14th-ish) There was panic and I tried to germinate the seeds....and got zilch.

Yeah the seeds are probly just bad now.
Usally if they dont hatch within 42 hours, Chances are they aint good.

If you want to get the genetics back in seed form,
Id just sacrafice a female plant.

Or do so crazy combination of genetics.
Like say X is female, And Y is male.

    X*Y*=Xy --- XY * X = YX2 ---- Yx2 * X = YX3.

If you understand what I mean by that, Just get the regulare genetics of the plant, And keep crossing them with other straings, There for weeding out the Y genetics (Male) And having stronger X genetics (Female)

Sorry If that made no sence at all.

that is just DUMB ... sorry, I tend to be blunt, OK ? ... I'm surprised no one else caught that :wtf: ... does Mother Nature dump her seeds in a puddle of water ?, no, they germinate in the soil ... this whole wet-paper towel idea has gotten so popular, people thinks it's correct procedure :wtf: ... DO NOT PRESOAK SEEDS, OR LET THEM STAY WET ... here's some reasons why, and how to germinate correctly:

    Germination

also, next time store your seeds, (with moisture-absorbing rice), and keep in the refrigerator, don't freeze ... better luck next time :smokin:

First, I'd avoid drowning your seeds.
    Sprouting Seeds...

Second, I'd store them in something that keeps them free from humidity, and keeps them from being crushed. (film container, glass spice jar...)

Third...I'd contact the seed store, and see if they might be kind enough to understand, and offer either a discount, or a few replacement beans. Honesty goes a long way sometimes...

spiked...your post is inaccurate and doesn't make complete sense. Male genetics are no stronger than female genetics, and are you sure your example is for cross breeding, and not back-crossing to stabilize a strain...?

I would try this. Dry the seeds out as best you can. get some of those silica gel things and put them with your seeds in a warm place, for a while. Changing the silica every few days. Then try to sprout them again, in soil or rock wool. Maybe the dry will reset them. Some other type of seeds do better if you weather them before use.

The chance this will work is low but what else can you do.

Thanks. I'll try the dry method and see what happen, especially of the strain that was freebie and that I have no clones going.

Some people say to presoak seeds in hydrogen peroxide or rooting hormone...is that valid or better to just put into pre-mois soil?
