Tent villages starting to crop up in the US

I've lost everything I owned recently, and am basically 'homeless' ... I have absolutely NO urge to steal or cheat ... I was raised much better than that ... while Crime escalates, it won't be because there are more poor people ... Crime dropped sharply during the Great Depression, people tended to support each other in hard times ... Crime will increase because of the lack of moral values, the broken homes, the piss-poor educational institutions, and a prevalent attitude of 'me, me, me' ... it's all about 'ME' these days, with no moral consequences ...

One of the best things this country could do right now is to reinstate the homestead act. we have billions of acres of national and state lands just being wasted. Let these people homestead a 5 acre parcel and give them a place to live.

The above 2 posts couldn't be more true. Not just recently, this has been going on for years! Just last year they closed a very large one in Los Angeles, they even had garden's etc. it had been there decades! San Diego chased them from the Zoo (of all places) in the '70's and the cycle keeps going on!!

This is not new. It is still extremely sad! I have found, in recent years, even some people raised with values are sad sacks of shit! Not you Reaper, but the "ME, ME and more ME ' Shit has to be educated out of the "world owes me' kind of thinking! I saw the video on TV and it did show how they are helped to get work, etc. But, a lot expect it to be given to them with no effort. i never found that worked for me! Sadly, our homeless in Calif. has been mostly Viet Nam vets and people with mental disorders. When Reagan was Gov. he closed them with no place to go. I know one and she actually preferred living 'on the road' by foot no less! She now resides in a correctional institution for the criminally mental insane! It makes you wonder, if that type of living would drive anyone over the edge.

If you have a passion, like mj growing or using--I am sure you will do anything to prevent living like that.

People that looted my 'hood' when it burned in '94 are back! After all these years one helped himself to a couple of tools I left out a week ago and a few days later got my ph # and asked me if he could come remove wood for firewood! He has been asked by the police to read the signs and stay off the property, it is not vacant like it was after he came when we had the big fire!! I caught him after the fire putting my gates back on after he had helped himself! It isn't the situation that drives people to steal and cheat, IT IS LACK OF MORAL STANDARDS! People would help if they could be certain the person they help doesn't help themself to your possessions and leave or 'identity theft'; which happened to a friend of mine that gave someone a home during the last 'recession.'

I think the majority of these tent people may be better off. They will be spoon fed, how to make a living, get food stamps, welfare and get a job! The legit ones will-others will just keep moving from one to another for years just waiting for someone to 'help' them and the day they totally trust them, they will come home and be 'cleaned out.' Guess I'd better get my meds, this is too pessimestic and a very sad thread!

I can't say I feel a lot of sorrow though. In good times, I slept in a 2 room cabin with 4 adults and 9 kids while I was a child! When we could, we slept outside, until evicted! And the utilities were turned off monthly! For some-it is simply a choice, as it was for my parents. They were self employed and could not handle $. Once I was in Jr. High I started running their business and paying the bills. Managed to live in one place for 5 years! We've always had tent cities! They use to use cardboard boxes and shopping carts!

4204life; it didn't take a genius to figure out that eventually those loans that were no interest for years would eventually have it and plan--as did you! No one could have predicted the extreme loss of work, but it is cyclical and will happen again. Hopefully, never to the point, there is no money to loan!
boaz; that is a good idea!

Cannacom members could run this country much better! and overgrowthe Gov't!! PR:rastasmoke:
