Q's starting a dispensary in Seattle?

Hey If I were you I would call a co-op right here in Seattle there is the Green Buddha Patient Network, also there is Green cross and also there is Botanical Urban Dispensary Service. I know some of them personally and I could ask and post what I find out for you. This is something that I have been considering myself also. Good Luck

REad post #4. Dispensaries or co-ops are not legal anywhere in the state. The ones in Seattle have been left alone by leo because they're not causing any problems and I'm sure there were some backroom deals done.

The existence of co-ops does not necessarily mean that there are provisions in the WA mmj laws which cover them - they are not necessarily and automatically legal just because they exist.

As we've seen in nearly every MMJ state, there are those who are willing to push the envelope. There are probably a variety of reasons why people are willing to take those risks, such as ambiguous language in the relevant laws, the laws may not be well-defined and well-tested and there are not many examples of case precedent, it's a booming niche that's not yet saturated, etc.

Most of us have probably heard at least one example of someone who thought they were perfectly well within the law, only to find themselves embroiled in legal action by state or federal agencies that don't agree with that assessment.

If you are looking to start or join a coop or dispensary, you need to be prepared to be harassed or arrested, whether you believe it's 100% legal or not. It's a high-risk proposition, and should only be undertaken if you are willing to spend time in jail and/or court to prove yourself right.

Another Washington dispensary was raided and closed down yesterday (The Human Connection). It's depressing to keep track of how many times this happens, not only in WA but in any state with MMJ laws.

And the most depressing thing is that it will continue to happen. There's no downside for law enforcement here, no strong incentive for them to leave these businesses alone

I'm in Washington and KillerWeed420, Sandybarr and Mugenbao are right.

I won't go through quoting, I'll just say there's a big difference between legal and allowed. NONE of them are "legal", including the farmers markets.
That doesn't mean that they aren't operating because obviously they are.

Last week, 20 dispensaries in Tacoma were given cease and desist orders effective 3-28-11. Edmunds just kicked Sativa out of the city. Snohomish county just closed BiziB down for the second and final time and they did it without a warrant. Game collective in West Seattle was robbed on Saturday, the cops got the robbers. A co-op in Mount Lake Terrace on Lake city way was closed down on Saturday as well. The bottom line is that certain municipalities are running folks out of town.

IMHO, I think they are harassing and shutting them down push by push in order to prepare for the Washington State legislatures passing Bill 5073 (or not). If they pass the bill, they will shut them all down for good. If they pass a modification that allows them in certain places, they still need to shut them down and force them to re-open under stricter tax guidelines.

The next two weeks are going to tell us alot. In that time there will be another farmers market next Sunday in Seattle and one the following week south in Pierce county in Tacoma. If they shut either of these down (they haven't interfered yet) it will be telling.

Also in the lead up to the vote on the bill, we shall see if there are anymore co-ops or dispensaries shut down or harassed. And by the way, the cops or the zealots or whoever is pushing LEO doesn't care what you call it whether it's a co-op or a dispensaries. That's semantics in your own mind. What they know is that people are selling pot in these places and it's drawing crime to those neighborhoods.

    That's the straight dope!!

It IS going to be legal eventually, the question is when and how. Until then, none of us are safe.

    Be wary.

Heres the problem...you cant set a donation amount ...when you state $20 donation... its no longer a donation its a required amount.

If you have 2 gs of weed and I have $5 to donate...it should be a done deal
