Iowa lawmakers consider medical marijuana bill but passage not likely

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) â?? Iowa lawmakers are considering a medical marijuana bill, even though its sponsor says it's probably doomed.

Under the bill, restricted marijuana use would be legal to help the pain and nausea for those with cancer, Lou Gehrig's disease and certain chronic illnesses.

Sen. Joe Bolkcom, an Iowa City Democrat, filed the bill last week. He says he's gotten e-mails from people whose pain medication is ineffective.

The bill calls for not-for-profit centers to acquire, cultivate and deliver marijuana and related supplies to qualifying patients.

The bill is likely to fail because it doesn't have enough support to pass another legislative deadline.

Ask why is cannabis illegal! A herb that has never killed anyone (unlike Big Pharma's "cures") and inspires titles like (URLs in my list below)- "Cannabidiol Dramatically Inhibits Breast Cancer Cell Growth" or "Cannabis May Halt Progression Of Multiple Sclerosis" and even "Cannabidiol May be Effective in Preventing Bovine Spongiforme Enzephalopathy (Mad Cow Disease)"! And you might remind them that polls consistently show that 65 to 95% of the American public (VOTERS) support medical use of cannabis.

UPDATE: Looks like we may get the bill tabled until next year. More time to educate folks I guess, better than losing it!! So far, no exact word.

Sent out emails and made phone calls, but the email from NORML tonight looks like we are out of luck again this time. I think it is time to leave tis place and look for greener pastures. :rasta:

Don't move, change things instead! Your email is considered the equal of the voice of 100 voters. 99% of the voters are too lazy to express their opinions!

NOW is the time to make a year long pledge to yourself to be a real activist by writing every week. That is just 52 letters-it should take you all of 10 minutes out of your busy weekly schedule. In return, you become the "voice" of a small town's worth of people! You might get a couple of friends to join in and "represent" your area.

Most MMJ bills do not pass on their first "go"- that it was even considered is progress. When I started using cannabis medically, there was not even the idea of "medical use"! ALL use was criminal! Even in California, a couple of seeds could get you 20 years! Dealing in some states was LIFE!

Now, over 1/4 of the US has some form of MMJ. We have come a LONG way!

Don't give up! Don't retreat! Bookmark your state politicians' website and make it a weekend ritual. Just grab a fattie and do a "Light and write!" :thumbsup:
