The birth of a Cannabis plant, open thread

    Hello.

I am starting this thread as an open thread for all of us to fill with condensed information about how YOU give birth to new plants, be it from seed or clone.

I want only posts with step by step picture guides from your own op's and questions about posted guides here.
If we can make this thread a good one it would be a good sticky and save a lot of over-and-over explenations on this forum.

Besides that I am sure all of us more senior growers can learn a trick or two from eachother, it's easy to just keep doing as always even though there are better techniques out there surelly.

So get to work and bring out those pics or keep the camera close next time around guys.

I'm gonna start with a clone guide of my own.

    Keep it growing

    Hello

This is my picture guide about how I clone new plants and take care of them.
I have a 2*2 area under a 125W CFL for clones and there I have a 20 plant aeroponic cloner + space for my bonzai mothers.

The mother in this guide is a White Widow with proven genetics but I am in the process of making a Papaya into a bonzai as well now.
My WW-mother gives about 25 clones every 2 weeks and is normally the sizer of a handball but when she grows together too much she gets a hard trim. That happens every 3 months or so.

    Lets get down to buziness:

WW mother after a HARD trim:

Same mother as she normally looks.

Papaya getting some bondage done to her.

    Clone area:

Clone about to get cut. I save two point of new growth below the cut but above the lowest level I decided to cut to secure future growth from the branch in question on the mother. The cut is never at an angle on the mother to make her mend faster:

    New clone:

Clone gets cut into a better size, now with an angeled cut, I always keep minimum 2 spots from which the clone can start growth to be sure:

I cut of about this much branches from the clone and also cut the surface of the clone on two sides to make them grow more roots:

Clone ready to transplant, I normally root them mediumless but it happens I put them straight into coco or jiffies as well. Natrually I use rooting formula on every clone first, I use liquid:

    Clones about to root:

    That's it folks.
Now show your way and what setup you use, if any, to take care of babies.

Root cage's are more for seedling's than clone's..but i dont use them for either.I prefer not too have the restriction it cause's.They sell the lil neoprene clone plug's for clone's instead.

SO why do you use the cage's for your clones?

Oh they are, are they? :hippy:

I root them in cages because that's where they stay until I cut them down as 4ft plants.
They also flower aeroponically, otherwise I would just suspend them without cage pots natrually or use jiffies or RW instead of the propagator.

Come on guys, show us how you start up your plants, clone or seed. And how you keep them.

I'm not too experienced in cloning yet, but i've tried a couple ways myself. The first way i tried was to get small paper square pot things (about 1x1x1.5), the ones that roots will grow through and you can plant them directly into a bigger pot, fill them with jiffy seedling mix, water them and let them go for a week or two.

the second thing i tried is jiffy peat pellets. let them expand in water, pop your cutting into them, and youre done. well, almost that easy. on my second batch of these, i had a mold problem. it works better, i've since read, to squeeze a lot of the water out of them before putting your cutting in. since peat has pretty good water retention properties, this is necessary so the roots will have to grow outward to search for more water instead of having a steady supply all around with no work having to be done. the first batch of these i did sat for 2 weeks with no visible root system coming out of the pellet. i opened them up to see that there was, indeed, roots, but they were only 1/4" in length. i know people have had good success with these, but they just haven't worked out for me yet. i took another batch of 10 a few days ago, remembering to squeeze some water out and to not over spray under the humidity dome (which can also lead to moldy pellets). we'll see how these go.

The small pots seemed to work a lot better for me, with new 1/2" to 1-1/2" roots after 1-2 weeks. i think that maybe the peat pellets are too dense for brand new roots to penetrate quickly and easily, but someone who has had success with the pellets, please give me a tutorial lol. i have not given up on them, but until i know the best way to use them, i'll be sticking to the first method.

also, i subscribed to a thread that has directions and pictures of the results for a cool DIY bubble cloner, similar to what puffzter already posted. here is the link.

also, bozo has some other great threads that are fun to read, including a cheap easy hydro system.

I throw some seed's in a cup of water, when i have 1/2 inch or so of tap root (usually 2-3 days) i put the seed root side down into my aero-rooter.
