Light Recommendations/Issues for this space
The space available measures 2.62ft wide (standard door size basically), by 6.5ft length, by 7.4ft high. Due to some shelves and a slight decrease in height towards the back, the area im looking to grow in equals about 2.62 x 4-4.5ft x 7.5ft high, which is towards the front of this area.
What would the best setup be in this space, using a HPS light and non-hydro/garden pots setup?
I was thinking a single 400/430w lamp to grow either two nice plants, or 4 slightly smaller ones.
I can not afford to cut holes for ventilation in this space, so whatever is decided it will have to involve the door, which is the only entrance/exit to this space. Would one be able to get away with leaving the door ajar somewhat and just placing a standard turning fan in there to circulate a bit of air? This storage space closet is located in a big room, which has a very big window that can be propped open, and is on the bottom floor of a flat within a flat block. The room faces South though, so in summer it could heat up a bit (UK thought  ), but i think the ambient temperature in the lower portion of the flat will remain stable.
All opinions and ideas welcomeThankyou!

I forgot to add that the total floor space comes to approx 17ft squared.. and considering the height is 7.5ft (a bit lower in the second half of this space), would this be enough volume of space to handle a 400w light given the ventilation conditions mentioned above?

Ive also just found this page, where you can make your own odor neutralizer. Build your own Odor Neutralizing Machine - Cannabis Culture Forums
Could this possibly be integrated in the setup somehow? I would like to neutralize odors if possible, but dont want to go all out on a proper ventilation getup.
Thanks

If you cant get a proper ventillation system in there with the 400 watt, then I would go with cfls. Its a pain in the ass to grow in uncontroled small conditions with a large heat source. You also could think about cutting a whole in the door and a cool tube 400 watt setting your ducting, fan, and carbon scubber on the top of the closet.

Would it be possible to have the door set ajar and construct some kind of shielding with two corner holes in it, which could be attached to the inside of the door; Leaving one hole at the bottom for air intake, and one at the top for some exhaust tubing to poke through?
In effect sealing the door, albeit rather poorly. Even if it wasn't 100% sealed up (excluding in/outtake), surely if i managed to get a negative air pressure inside the space, and so long as i had a decent odor neutralizer in place+fan the outside room would remain largely odor free?
I do want to use HPS.. allow me highgrade smokes!

I will take some photos of the space tomorrow to show

Your grow area is about 2.6 x 4.5...that's about 11.75 square feet. I'd go with two 250w over a single 400w. With a room that's more rectangular than narrow, the farthest areas of the room will be pretty far from the bulb if you've got one 400w in the center. You can get the 250w a little closer to the plants, too. You'll have slightly less heat issues. Try and get a clip light and mount it on something that is up high and near the door...and have it blowing out. That will at least get some of the (rising) warm air out. I've grown in an area like this, and here;s the good news...the extra height helps a lot with keeping things cool. My 02.
btw...I don't know what you call "small" plants...but 11.75 square feet is enough to get 6-8 good sized plants. I'm talking about 32-40" tall plants. I've grown four decent size plants in a 28" x 28" area. I'm interested in hearing how other feel, but I'd be thinking about 6 plants in a space like that. 16" x 17" for each plant would be 32" x 51"... pretty much exactly what you described. 16" x 17" is enough room for a plant that ends up around 3 feet tall.

if you get a inline fan with an air coolable reflector, doesnt have to be cool tube either you can fit a 400 watter in there easy. you would have to duct that hot air out the window/room some how. i ran a setup kinda like in your situation and had no problems with heat. but then again my hot air was vented in the attic and the fan sucked in the ambient air temp of my room into my grow room. got really big buds and great results from it too. also with your space you can easily fit 8 five gallon pots in there. thats if you mount the fan on the wall. what kind of door is it? slider or a regular door? you could cut holes in the door if its traditional, cause those are easy to replace.
