    SOG question

I am currently growing large plants in a grow tent that is 39"x39"x79" under a 400watt hps. I am getting good results. However, I am looking to switch it up and try the SOG method. My question is this how many plants would be best and what size containers should I use? I was thinking 1 gallon grow bags.

    Please give me some ideas!

    Many thanks

    SOG question

Are they gonna be clones or from seed? Clones will work better for SOG because they all will grow the same and all that good stuff. 1 gal should be good for clones, but from seed idk if that will be big enough.

    SOG question

I would go one plant every 6-8 inches square. I would have pots the largest possible and as deep as possible, more soil only helps. I love hydro, and have built my own nft/ebb system that is super cheap, easy and works great. If you want i can get you some pictures. It can be built for less than 40 bucks. Its great for small grow boxes.

Let the clones get 6-8 inches tall. it depends on the strain. If they grow tall then flower sooner.

Also not SOG set ups need more air circ than normal, because all the plants are so much closer and disease can spread like a wild fire in the wind.

    SOG question

Well, it depends on how much you want to cram them in there. I have a tent w/ the exact same dimensions you are describing. I can get about 25 2 gallon pots in there, in addition to 2 5 gallon buckets, and a couple of 6 inch square pots w/ some wiggle room. Not much, just that round pots don't use that space efficiently as it could be used. 2 gallon grow bags seem perfect, and you could get more in there using them. Just remember you need room to work too. You also need to be able to get to them, for watering etc...
If you are like me, you probably will have to take them out to water and then put them back, which is fine, it gets them rotated a bit, just takes lots of time. Hell you could probably get away with twice as many 1 gallon bags, (yes I know, "thank you capt. obvious" lol) just a little voice in my head tells me 2 is a little safer. But again that probably depends on how well established you get your clones before you flip them. I would rather end up w/ a little too much room for roots, than not enough. If you are going to flower as soon as they root, then the 1's are probably fine, your plants won't get that big, but SOG is about numbers, not big plants. It's all new to me, and I am not exactly doing a SOG at the moment, but it is intriguing. Hope that helps. Take anything I say w/ a grain of salt please, I am still figuring out my ass from the back of my hand when it comes to growing, but thought I would chime in since I have had some experience with this specifically.

    SOG question

Hey good luck, I just ran into a little hitch myself, but that's more due to piss poor planning on my part. I hope that it works out for you. I am planning on a SOG myself, someday!

    SOG question

The 400 HPS/MH doesn't have the light penetration like a 1000 watt, so use that to your advantage.

Grow as many as you can in 6" square containers. Flip the light schedule to 12/12 when 6" tall. They will double almost triple in size during flowering. Some people will veg a rooted clone for 0-10 before flipping the lights to enduce flowering.

    Good Luck.
