I think you could ditch the red spectrum CFL's with a HPS. The HPS should provide plenty of red light for the plants to flower. You could probably keep the blue CFL's to keep the light spectrum better balanced if you wanted.

dgsgandalf Reviewed by dgsgandalf on . peculiar question on mixing lights so if ur using say like 4 blue spectrum cfls, and 8 red spectrum, all at 100W equivalents, and say i wanted to use a 600W hps for some of the time during the lightportion of the cycle (in flowering), would the plants be harmed by the heavy fluctuations of light intensity during its 12 hour light? the prob is that 600 is too strong for just 2 plants, but they are mad big now, like 4 and 6 feet tall. its a small room, like 4 by 5 or sumn like that. close too, so itd be too hot, thats why id just Rating: 5
