    peculiar question on mixing lights

so if ur using say like 4 blue spectrum cfls, and 8 red spectrum, all at 100W equivalents, and say i wanted to use a 600W hps for some of the time during the lightportion of the cycle (in flowering), would the plants be harmed by the heavy fluctuations of light intensity during its 12 hour light? the prob is that 600 is too strong for just 2 plants, but they are mad big now, like 4 and 6 feet tall. its a small room, like 4 by 5 or sumn like that. close too, so itd be too hot, thats why id just use it for say like half of the light hours... is that a str8 idea? any input would be great.

I don't really see the problem... Its like buying a Ferrari, and not driving it because its too fast...

I have a less than 2'x2' space with a 400w hps, and only two plants. Get that 600w up and running full time! Yes it will be very hot and bright, but keeping it on only half the time will not help, because it will heat up in a matter of minutes. If you have heat problems with the light, a cooltube and a 200cfm tube fan (might be able to use a little weaker cfm, maybe) will eliminate these problems.

Once you get that 600w running, put all those cfls around the sides and near the bottoms, and you will have a HUGE harvest. Good luck

I think you could ditch the red spectrum CFL's with a HPS. The HPS should provide plenty of red light for the plants to flower. You could probably keep the blue CFL's to keep the light spectrum better balanced if you wanted.

    Good luck!
