Mildew on my Ph meter
Hey guys, I have a "Milwaukee Ph 600" ph pen that has been collecting mildew on it. I was wondering if there's an easy way to get it clean and keep it clean? I bought the ph meter cleaning solution as well as the storage solution. The cleaning solution doesn't seem to clean the mildew off very well. I usually keep the meter with the cap on it and I put a small amount of the storage solution in the cap so the probe doesn't dry out. But I'm worried the mildew will contaminate the plants' water. Anybody with any advice is well appreciated, thanks.

I don't blame you for being worried!
Something acidic will kill the mold, try vinegar.
I'm just applying Desperate Housewives type thinking here...don't blame me if this advice is bad. I don't work for pH meter company or anything..(Warning! Poster has never had a similar problem)

i know bleach / water solution will kill mold, just a tiny bit of bleach like a tsp to 1 cup water, it will kill mold but im not sure if it will harm your ph pen, i wouldnt think it would but look at your manufacture instructions should have directions on how to clean. But bleach will kill the mold...good luck

Hey thanks I'll look for the papers that came with it and see if it says anything about cleaning. Is there a better way to store the meter? I heard that the probe isn't supposed to dry out, is there any truth to that? If the instructions don't say anything about cleaning I'll give the bleach a try. Thanks again for the info

I had a similar problem and used bleach/water solution and an old toothbrush to gently scrub it. It worked for me and my meter is still working fine, although can't guarantee the same for your meter.
My meter suggests using a little 'buffer 4' in the probe cap for storage, but again, it may be different for yours.
