Disapointed First Harvest
Just harvested my first grow, a white widow. Grew for 10 weeks and flowered under 250w HPS for 8-9. When I cut the plant it was sticky and smelly which i thought was great. I hung the buds up side down in the garage and then stored them in a ceramic jar in the fridge. It is not as sticky or smelly now so i had a smoke last night and was disapointed that it didn't seem at all potent. I smoked a white widow joint in Amsterdam and have way through it was on my arse stoned. Anyone know where I have went wrong as I dont want to waste another 20 weeks doing the same mistakes.
Regards

Hi, maybe you harvested to early... what percentage was there brown hairs? The normal rate to harvest is when 75% of the white hairs turn brown.
Also you say your garage?... is it cold in there?... what was the temperature? how long did you leave them there for?

Hung them for about 1 week to dry then another week in the fridge. Most of the hairs on the buds where going orange/brown colour. RE is the garage cold. YES i live in Ireland so its always bloody cold

10 weeks should be long enough for WW. After a cure it might have more punch. And potency is mainly determined by genetics so it could just be this one plant wasn't that potent, another plant even from the same pack of seeds might be more potent. You have to realize that in the dam, if you buy something from a coffee shop it's probably from a really good clone of that strain, and not every seed will give you the same phenotype. At least you have some smoke and some experience.

Also what brand of seeds was it? from what webpage did you got your WW's?

Store the jars in a cool dark place...not the fridge until completely cured. I believe the fridge is going to cause condensate in the jars which could affect the potency. Check the net for curing.

How come you grew them vegetatively for ten weeks? How big were they at ten weeks? There's no point growing the plants for a long time when they are being flowered with only 250 watts. I use a 250w myself and I only veg for a couple of weeks, unless I've started from seed then it takes a while longer.
The light from a 250w lamp cannot penetrate much foliage so the most efficient way to grow with 250w (in my opinion) is to have lots of smaller plants left unpruned so they only have one cola (sea of green or screen of green method) as opposed to fewer but larger plants. This method is quicker as the vegetative period is very short, so your clones are in and out of flowering quickly. The set up I have now is- A small cabinet which is lit with 110 watts of fluorescent light, this is the mother and clone chamber so I've got a constant supply of clones; and there's the flowering chamber which is lit with a 250w HPS. This set up will allow me to harvest every 56 days. The clones are taken from the mothers, rooted and veged until the others in the flowering chamber are ready to pull. Then the new clones go in and so on, and so on; a constant cycle.

Genetics, environment are factors. More details are needed to make a guess. The Nirvana White Widow (started from seed) a local grower has is kick you in the head smoke. Takes around 9 to 10 weeks in flower cycle to complete. He now uses clones from a wicked mother plant.

hi lofty
i have been growing for about ten years mate and have been growing white widow excusivly for the last 2 years, if your widows dryed in 1 week then there is a problem, widows are known for there sticky oozy nature, drying should take as long as you can possibly make it, if it was dryed in a week then you have rushed the drying mate, this will make it harsh and sticking it in a fridge straight after drying is gonna do you know favours, i would say try again but this time place your seedlings to veg for no longer than 3 weeks, then wack them on 12/12 for about another 60/65 days, when there ready dry in a cool but not cold place thats dark, leave untill there dry, this is not a smoke to cure when still wett, then cure for at least 3/4 weeks in a glass air tight container, make sure that this is still in a dark place, contrary to what some would say, dont allow the lid to be open untill you want to sample,i will post you a pic so you can see what it should look a bit like, i hope this helps ps these are about 2 weeks from finish

Thanks for the advice guys. One more question. If I grow from another seed and only veg for 3 weeks, shurely the plants will be very small and therefore the crop and buds will be very small.
