    LEAVES

HEY PEOPLE I AM IN A DILEMMA OVER HERE......SHOULD I CUT ALL THE LEAVES OR NOT? I REFER TO THE FAN LEAVES THAT BLOCK THE LIGHTS REACHING THE MIDDLE OF THE PLANT.....WILL THAT SHOCK THE PLANT OR NOT? BY DOING THIS WILL MY BUDS GROW LARGER? I AM ABOUT TO FINISH WEEK 5 12/12 IN 3 DAYS AND BUD PRODUCTION HAS ALREADY TOOK OFF WITH BUDS GETTING BIGGER EVERY DAY....ALSO, SOMEWHERE IN THIS FORUM I'VE READ THAT ANOTHER WAY OF KNOWING WHEN TO HARVEST (OTHER THAN LOOKING ON THE TRICHOMES) IS TO LOOK WHEN THE PISTILS HAVE CHANGED COLOUR FROM WHITE TO BROWN/ORANGE/PURPLE ETC....AROUND WHEN A GOOD 50% HAS CHANGED COLOUR IT'S HARVEST TIME....ANY THOUGHTS?

Judge by trichs not pistil color, it's a better measure cause you want to smoke THC not pistils so judge by what you're actually trying to smoke. I would say leave the fan leaves if they're healthy, they are the major sites of photosynthesis which is how a plant gets ALL of it's energy. The ferts is to give it the molecules it needs, but photosynthesis is how it produces energy.

Dude if you have more then one plant why not see for yourself what is better? Trim one, leave one alone and just tuck the leafs out of the way on the third.

Report back on what works best.

You really should use a 30x microscope and catch the trichomes just before they turn color to amber, they will go from cloudy to amber in about 5-7 day's so pick when most of them are cloudy. They will continue to mature, as the plant dries out so don't rush it.

no, leave the leaves on. They will help bud production at then end, if you chop them off that 2 week spurt at then end will be much less; they're like nutrient resevoirs. 5 weeks isnt even close. Do you know the strain? is it indica (wide dark leafs) or sativa (thin light ) or in the middle. it will be at leas 7 weeks, 8 is normal. If it is sativa much much more

You should trim them off so the light can get to the buds in the middle or else your buds will grow slow...

i agree with with mellow mood. LOL, but i'll give you my 2 cents.. LOL. newgrower, i think you know my opinion,. i got this from the Ask ED book, that if it is blocking light to the flowers and you can't find a place to tuck without it blocking something else, cut it. i've cut many of them and i think if you check out BSpectrals pictures he/she has everywhere, he/she has cut off all fan leaves and those buds look great. i've noticed more growth in my buds since i cut the fan leaves. not all, just enough to get the other buds direct light.

but like others have said, you are going to get every opinion that you could have thought of yourself with a little added info maybe. i think the best way to learn is to take this all in and decide for yourself....or like zandor said, try one one way and they the other the other way and then you can pass on YOUR experience and opinions later on that others may not agree with.....LOL a never ending cycle...but isn't that how scientists have progressed over the centuries? buy challenging and disagreeing. so in a weird way, we all are helping out in our bud growing evolution!!!! take care

Agree'd. You CAN prune.. but it's suggested just to tuck em down so they're outta the way..
