Yeah they are, I use to smoke cigs. They cost about 7 bucks a pack in Washington State. Not bad considering my smoking friend and I spend over 300 a week on bud... :wtf:

    Peace.

In Canada the government taxes the hell out of smokes. A carton of 200 smokes ranges from 75 bucks to over 90 bucks.

The taxes are so heavy that the government has created a nice black market demand.

Here, Indian reserves are exempt from the tax. So they ship out carloads of smokes to their off reserve dealers. I buy my smokes from a dealer for 20 bucks a carton. I think he gets them for 12 and makes an 8 dollar profit.

A scam that Imperial Tobacco and Rothmans was doing was to ship the smokes to the USA duty free, then smugglers paid by the tobacco companies would smuggle them back across the border into Canada tax free. Tobacco Underground | Articles - How To Get Away With Smuggling

But since they got busted, the Indians have taken over and are supplying most of the black market.

What makes everything funny too is, all these big cigarette companies (Marlboro, Newport, Camel, etc.) are losing money to some of the cheaper cigarette companies. Have had about 20 people I know who smokes, who has changed their cigarettes to a less affordable pack of around 2-4 rather than the 5-6 range. Supposedly is going to go up again in the near future. Not my concern though as I don't smoke cigs.

This government tax $hit has gotta stop! It's time for revolution. The more we let them push us around, the more they'll do it.

on another note, I have different views on tobacco than most. I think of tobacco much like a sacred herb as well. To me it's really a good relaxing vibe. But just like my weed, I roll my own. I prefer all natural organically grown tobacco free of preservatives. I also detest filters because I'm convinced that everytime you take a draw, millions of microscopic pieces of filter get sucked into your throat and lungs. How many people had that grandfather who smoked everyday for 50+ years and lived to be 90+ years old? What is the difference between the tobacco they smoked and a pack of modern cigarettes? modern tobacco is put through a process very similar to making paper. they make sheets of tobacco (which is treated with preservatives) and then they shred it. Cap it off with a filter made of fiberglass or something, and you have a hand held death trap. Tobacco is not a bad thing, just go natural like our native american brothers did. After all, would you want to smoke a joint that was treated with chemicals and had a filter on it?:wtf:
