Is Too Much Air in DWC Possible?

Is it possible to have too much air in a DWC bucket? I have a 19W industrial pump running two 4"x1" cylindrical air stones in 63-68 degree water and my roots are still rotting. Is it possible I am proving too much air where the roots can't get a grip on the bubbles or something?

I can't see where 'too much' air, would cause any problems (except, it can change pH sometimes) ... have you tried giving a dose of H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide 3%, couple ounces per gallon), maybe as a weekly flush, to clean up the roots ? ...

    deja
have you tried filling out a troubleshoot form ? plz do so, plz give the greatest detail you can about your system and environment and I'm sure SA,IR,Wh and other seasoned hydro growers will be glad to help you get your system working proper.

I was using H2O2 until I got fungus gnats from the rot. Then, I had to stop using H2O2 so it didn't kill the bacteria in my mosquito dunk to combat the gnats. When I stop one the other becomes a problem.

I've gone back and forth with WH in several different threads over the same exact problems that were plaguing me a year ago and have had no luck, but here is a run down of my situation:

In flower am running 2 DWC buckets on a 19W industrial pump and 4"x1" cylindrical air stones. My water temp is 63-68 and my air temps are 65 at night to around 78-80 in the day. I am feeding them Pure Blend Pro Bloom, Liquid Karma, and Hygrozyme at about 1200 PPM.

Right now I have pHed water and a small bit of H2O2 in a bottle that I use to spray the gunk off the roots, and it comes off, but the problem is that the roots are not growing at all.

I have two mothers also in DWC and my PK has thick white mass of roots and only a little bit of black and my MK mother has these dead orange looking roots with one end that has white shoots coming off of it. I am only feeding the mothers PBP grow and a little bit of Super Thrive at 1200 PPM with a pH of about 5.8.

I have 5 week old cuttings in E&F that are also struggling to grow roots, even though my system is cleaned and scrubbed weekly. One of them looks like it is going to start popping out roots, but then they shrivel up and turn black. Above ground, the plant looks fairly healthy though. I am feeding these PBP grow and Hygrozyme.

Less nutes, no LK, no Hygrozyme, it worked for me.

Dejayvou, I've somewhat followed your hydroponic problems, for quite awhile now ... you may be right about switching back to soil ... I mean, the idea is to grow the herb, and if you're not getting results, it may be time to try something else, that you've had luck with ... you've definitely struggled a long time with the hydro, nobody can say you haven't tried ... good luck :smokin:

the 1200 ppm is killing your roots...drop to 750

In case anyone was interested, the root of my problem (haha) seemed to be my water. I switched to RO water and my roots are now thriving and I now have one huge bush of a Purple Kush plant that is a week into flower and it looks great with big white healthy roots. Thanks for all the input and suggestions.

    My two cents worth.
that much air and 1200 ppm amount to an aeroponic system running 24/7

back off the nuits to 300-600,maybe cut the air flow by 50%

Fungus nats do not hurt your plants. put up a no pest strip. Had them for a long time then they all got caught.
