Need total darkness in veg?
I've got some clones under 24hr florescent tube lights in a corner of my veg room.
So, when my main MH lamp is in its off cycle (6/18), there is still quite a bit of light in the room.
This is also the time I like to water and screw around with my plants, so I sometimes also have the ceiling fan lights on so I can see what I'm doing.
Now, I realize the importance of total darkness during flower, but how important is total darkness during veg night cycle?
Thanks in advance to any replies!Hempfester Reviewed by Hempfester on . Need total darkness in veg? I've got some clones under 24hr florescent tube lights in a corner of my veg room. well actually.. i dont suppose it really would matter? vegging plants can receive as much light as possible and be ok but it arises a couple questsions....
will the heavy flux of the intensity of light be strong enough for the plant to not only recognize but be confused by? (confused plants may hermie themselves under different types of stress)
because more root growth happens when there is less photosynthesis (dark cycles) is there still going to be more root growth if the plant receives a fraction of the light (and thus less photosynthesis) it is normally used to having in its light cycles? (the idea of darkness during veg is to promote for faster growth of roots, so would this excess of light entirely negate the reason of using a a 6/18 off/on schedual?)
very good questions to consider, but of which i do not have the answer.. all about personal speculation

Thanks for the reply.
Thats the exact reason why I posted.
The dark cycle is when the roots build. I don't want to merely slow down veg while not getting the benefit of night time root development.
On a side note, I also smoke tobacco and do a few bong rips while playing with my plants. Does anyone know if smoking is toxic to plants?

i've heard everything on whether or not smoke (cig or mj) hurts/harms cannabis while its growing. a guy i used to know only ever smoked mj around his plants on the last two weeks of flower. he swore it made them more potent. his strain was damn good already though, so i'm not sure. then another person i know said no smoke of any kind near live cannabis plants. claimed it could "clog their stomas," which is semi-believable, i guess. i've always heard "no cig smoke," though. i, though i hate to admit it, have done just that. no ill effect on my plants that i noticed.
i guess what i am saying is that you'll probably get just as many people telling you not to smoke your bong around the plants as you do telling you its ok to do.
perhaps smoking mj around live cannabis could cause them to shut down and die because they can see what lies ahead for them: combustion!
stay safe

ok so heres my say on the smoking near cannabis..
1. cigarrettes are bad for you, for when the tobacco and its additives is burn and inhaled, its carcinogens are damaging to our cells.. plants breath just as we do, so i would assume that such a basic rule would apply for the plants
2. adaptation and evolution has definitly taken cannabis very far (u knw what im talkin bout fellas :stonedbut as well as its marvelous flowers (:stoned
cannabis has adapted over its species life span to be a very sturdy and strong plant. i would assume that cannabis has definitly come into conctact with smoke of one of its counterparts during a fire and such, and by the rules of survival of the fittest, perhaps those who were most resistant to the smokewere the ones who were able to reproduce and continue the species. just a wild thought there
3. ive personally seen an instance where a smoker used his growroom frequently for a smoke of the good shit and never really saw anything particularly alarming about his grows
4. weed really isnt harmful for is users (not noticeably anyways) so perhaps wouldnt be harmful for weed to use it either.. just dont smoke around ur plants too much, they might get peer pressured, loose all motivation and ambition, and get lazy as fuck during the last few weeks of flowering.. tsk tsk
5. im high.. my appologies
