Temperature Control
One and all,
First post, thanks all in advance.
Specs - 3'x4' indoor closet, hooded 600W MH vented to roof with squirrel cage fan, box fan in ceiling, mylar all around, 6"x10" floor intake vent, room/closet kept off HVAC system during winter. Cannot use windows.
Having tremendous heat problems. No matter what it stays 80-85*. When I use the central HVAC it only drops 5* or so and still found it above 90* in the middle of summer.
Ruined a couple of crops already. THC being baked off the plants (guess)?
I'm considering a portable air conditioner with 10,000BTU and setting it up in the (unused 110 Sqft) room and venting via the attic.
Anyone else have experiences with this problem and found a solution? Think the above is viable?
Again, thanks in advance,
Peace,

A 600 watt MH is a little strong for a closet. Plus, the UV rays are harsh, from a MH. Mylar, reflects the heat too, flat white paint might help?
A 250/400 watt HPS is better suited for a small closet. IMO.

Thanks, Dutch.
You should have seen what the 1,000W did. Only took twelve hours to ruin a crop; the plants were so devastated that even laying there dead they all were giving me the finger on every fan leaf.
I was thinking about downsizing again to a 400W but 600W = 50W/Sqft. Just too much for that small of a space? I moved about a year ago and had to downsize tremendously so not familiar with micro-gardening.
My main reason for considering the portable air conditioner is that I can then control the temperature and humidity (both adjustable settings) all the time. I'd only lose about 2 Sqft.
Goal is a pound per harvest. Should be doable theoretically. Can a 400W do that?
Thanks again, Dutch.

Seems like a similar problem I dealt with when still using my cabinet. I packed a 600 MH/HPS (dig ballast) into a 2 x 4 cabinet. Actually didn't do too bad and learned a bunch. In the cabinet, I used an active intake consisting of 165 cfm fan with 2 4" duct boosters. Exhaust was a couple of bathroom fans.. all controlled with a CAP AIR-3dn. All worked pretty good about 9 months out of the year in the garage. You can see the results in the links below..
In your case, I think those portable A/C units may work pretty good. The downside is the loss of floor space.. Can you go with the A/C unit and keep your 600? That would get you closer to your goal..

fuck it man you rock that 600w HPS like theirs no tomorrow! Have a good exhause/intake vent system set up & temperatures will keep themselves down. I recommend some CFL for the early veg stage & then flower with the HPS, more wattage = more buddage as long as nobody catches on fire.
